Why Choose White?

White colour schemes are also impressively versatile, creating a beautiful backdrop for artwork, furnishings and decoration that you can easily change over time.

Discover our white paint colours

If you've ever wondered what it is that makes Farrow & Ball so special, you'll find the answers here. From our high-quality ingredients to our artisanal methods, our 100% water based range of finishes and responsible practices, it's about so much more than just paint and paper.

Our Signature White Paint Colours

Here at Farrow & Ball, white is never simply white. Our whites have an array of subtle undertones to create depth, character and complexity — apart from  All White , which is simply all white pigment.

Far from boring, we have whites to suit every style. For a cosy, inviting space, consider warmer whites with red undertones, such as Joa's White , Archive and Pointing . Alternatively, if you prefer a clean, fresh feel for your space, try cooler whites with blue undertones — Cabbage White and Sizing are two of our favourites. We also have a few of those special shades that seem to effortlessly complement almost every colour scheme, including School House White and Wimborne White .

Sample Our Favourite Whites

The best way to experience our colours before taking the plunge is with a true-to-colour paint sample. To help you narrow down your shortlist of shades, we've curated three of our most popular shades to help you find your perfect match.

Sample selection contains 3 x 100ml Sample Pots of our beautiful All White, Wimborne White and Pointing.

How to Create a White Colour Scheme

Choosing colours is half the joy — and half the challenge — of decorating. You could opt for a tonal scheme, layering several shades from within the same family for a cohesive, gentle feel. This works wonderfully for spaces where you want a sense of calm, like a bedroom, or spaces where you want to focus, like an office. Alternatively, you could opt for something stronger and choose a scheme of contrasting colours.

With such beautiful shades to choose from, it can be tricky to narrow them down. That’s why we asked our in-house experts Joa Studholme and Patrick O’Donnell for three of their favourite white scheme suggestions.

Joa's White Schemes

Joa Studholme is a best-selling author, Colour Curator and the mind behind many of our (and the world’s) most iconic paint shades. The original Colour Consultant, it’s no surprise that Joa knows our palette inside and out.  You can book Joa to help with your transformation in-home or over video call.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best white paint colour?

White is a truly versatile colour family, meaning it’s impossible to describe any specific shade as the ‘best’ — it all depends on your light, surroundings and personal taste. With so many different potential undertones, white can feel warm and soft or cool and contemporary. Of course, we have our favourites — Wimborne White is always popular — but we recommend trying samples yourself to find your favourite.

What colour goes best with white paint?

As White paint is the most adaptable shade in our colour family, it means there’s a white to complement almost every other colour in our collection. To help you get started with your scheme, we suggest carefully curated combinations for every colour we create. Simply click on a colour on our website to find out more.

What effect does white paint have on a room?

The impact of white paint depends on which white you choose. Some whites soften a space, while other whites create a crisp look. In general, whites create a wonderfully versatile canvas to embellish with furniture, artwork and more.

Should I paint my whole room white?

Whether you should or shouldn’t entirely depends on what feeling you want to create and what look you prefer. And we have finishes to suit whichever decision you make. From multi-surface finishes so you can colour drench your entire space to specific trim paints that make a feature of your woodwork, our entire range is low odour, low VOC and water based.

How can I choose the right shade of white?

We always recommend trying a sample to see how a shade responds to the light and furnishings in your space, as what may look like the perfect colour online could appear different on your walls.

How do I make sure I get the best finish?

Preparation, preparation, preparation. Even with the finest paint and highest quality equipment, if your surface isn’t prepared properly, you won’t achieve a flawless finish. We always recommend using a Primer & Undercoat to smooth imperfections and improve adhesion.
