To help you create a beautifully considered scheme, we’ve gathered three simple styles of decorating. Sweeping across woodwork and walls, ceilings and floors, each one offers a tried and tested formula for creating rooms that you can’t wait to escape to.

Light on Dark

Painted in Stone Blue No.86Slipper Satin No.2004 | Estate Emulsion; Lime White No.1 | Estate Eggshell

Painted in Light Gray No.17 | Estate Emulsion; Off-White No.3 | Estate Eggshell

The first and most traditional style of decorating is to use rich colour on your walls and white on the woodwork, creating a crisp contrast and feeling of freshness. All of our colours have a carefully chosen complementary white, making it easier than ever to complete your scheme – in this light-filled living room, for example, intense Stone Blue is paired with soft Slipper Satin for an effortlessly striking look.

Dark on Light

Painted in Wimborne White No.239 | Estate Emulsion, Stiffkey Blue No.281 | Estate Eggshell, Borrowed Light No.235 | Modern Emulsion

Painted in Lime White No.1, James White No.2010 | Estate Emulsion; Off-Black No.57 | Estate Eggshell

For a sophisticated twist, try painting a darker shade on your trim – paired with paler walls, it allows the larger surface above to seem instantly lighter and airier. A combination of soft Pale Powder and inky Stiffkey Blue brings an unexpectedly modern element to this hallway while, to the right, an otherwise neutral living room is grounded by a striking touch of Off-Black.

One Colour

Painted in Bancha No.298 | Modern Emulsion, Modern Eggshell and Full Gloss

Choose one single colour for your whole room to add a sense of calm and simplicity, making your space feel bigger as walls flow seamlessly across woodwork and onto the ceiling. In this traditional kitchen, swathes of rich green Bancha are punctuated with white tiles for a room that’s both cosy and uncomplicated. Switching up the finish with a Full Gloss ceiling adds an unexpected touch.
