French Gray

No.18

A soothing green grey

French Gray is really much more green than grey, but characterfully flits between the two depending on the light and time of day. Taking inspiration from French decoration and wallpapers used in the 19th century, it creates the most relaxed of rooms. This soothing hue is perfect for exterior woodwork and a particular favourite for front doors in our matt Exterior Eggshell, or garden furniture where it sits seamlessly amongst the greenery.

Recommended Primer & Undercoat: Mid Tones

Complementary white: Lime White

ECO-FRIENDLY AND CHILD-SAFE

Back in 2010, we moved our entire range to an eco-friendly water base that’s low odour, low VOC and child-safe, becoming the first in the industry to do so. Easy to clean without harmful solvents, in tins that can be recycled again and again, our paints help to reduce the environmental impact of redecorating your home.

QUALITY FINISHES

Every one of our 132 paint colours is available in a range of durable interior and exterior paint finishes, each rigorously tested to ensure an exceptional depth of colour and long-lasting finish. For the very best results, we always recommend using a Farrow & Ball Primer & Undercoat – see above for the correct tone for this colour.

SAFETY INFORMATION

All Farrow & Ball finishes except Limewash contain isothiazolinones, which may produce an allergic reaction. Farrow & Ball Limewash contains calcium hydroxide which can cause severe damage in contact with skin or eyes. Customer Reviews
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Smooth richness I was worried that this might look too grey but I couldn’t be more wrong. Beautiful warm grey green which looks stunning with the white door frames and oak doors. Muted mustard tones work well with it. Well done Farrow & Ball another quality colour and paint.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Disappointing colour We painted two walls with French Grey, one in shadow and the other in full light. These two walls now seem to have completely different colours. The shadow wall takes on a quite dark colour whilst the other wall in bright light resembles a very light grey. We have made a sample panel with Treron. If we place the Treron bij the light wall then this matches the dark wall better than the French Grey. We are very disappointed with the result and consider painting it over with the original colour RAL9010. We would have liked to try painting the light wall over with Treron but unfortunately our budget does not allow us to make another mistake.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very pleased We are painting our old pine bedroom furniture. The quality of finish is so good and the colour is very modern and a bit different. Definitely more green than grey as they said in the info. Looks different intensity through the day as the light moves through the room. Very relaxing colour for the bedroom. It has made the furniture look new and good quality. Very pleased.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Tin had burst when delivered I have yet to make use of this paint as the 5l tin had burst open prior to delivery. My email to customer services received no response. On the plus side, the paint looks great smeared over everything in my kitchen, with real depth of colour, and would probably have looked great on the walls too had it got that far.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fabulous but not gray Used fallow and ball paints in every room in the house so we know the quality of the paint but got a surprise when we ordered the french gray for the hall and staircase it’s a sage green no gray tones at all but decided to keep it because it’s such a lovely colour just had to change our colour scheme all together to match it

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pretty green Used for a unit. Similar to Vert de Terre though a bit more dead and brown. Less alive if that makes sense. I don't like the name of this as it is too confusing compared to other companies actual French Grey (i.e Little Green) that is actually grey. Farrow and Ball normally has such lovely names but I don't like this name bc it is so green (really not grey at all). Sort of like Hardwick White, yes there is this lovely castle name to explain it, but by adding white, your brain has a certain idea of what the colour should be. But if you are happy you are getting a dull green with a sort of slightly yellow dead leaves theme...it looks okay on our unit. Could be better, but there are too many colour decisions to have everything perfect. Even with a colour specialist!
