Elephant's Breath

A warm mid grey

This warm and contemporary grey is renowned for its characterful paint name, originally created by John Fowler, the notable English interior designer. Elephant's Breath reads as an uplifting mid grey with its hint of magenta, but can become almost lilac in the cooler light of west facing rooms. Try offsetting with Charleston Gray and London Clay for an invitingly earthy scheme with more intense accents, or pair with other Contemporary Neutrals such as the softer Strong White for a sense of neutrality and calm.

Recommended Primer & Undercoat: Mid Tones

Complementary white: Strong White

Elephant's Breath is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 285.

Back in 2010, we moved our entire range to an eco-friendly water base that’s low odour, low VOC and child-safe, becoming the first in the industry to do so. Easy to clean without harmful solvents, in tins that can be recycled again and again, our paints help to reduce the environmental impact of redecorating your home.

Every one of our paint colours is available in a range of durable interior and exterior paint finishes, each rigorously tested to ensure an exceptional depth of colour and long-lasting finish. For the very best results, we always recommend using a Farrow & Ball Primer & Undercoat – see above for the correct tone for this colour.

All Farrow & Ball finishes except Limewash contain isothiazolinones, which may produce an allergic reaction. Farrow & Ball Limewash contains calcium hydroxide which can cause severe damage in contact with skin or eyes. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it I tried a few samples but Elephants Breath stood out as a warm colour in between grey and beige. I’ve used it to update oak furniture in the lounge, leaving the oak tops with black handles it’s the perfect colour and went on like a dream, used the light undercoat first then two coats of top coat, furniture looks brand new again. Very pleased

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fab paint! I bought this a month ago and got around to painting our bedroom the other weekend. I am delighted with the results. The colour can appear differently depending on the light, from grey to grey brown and sometimes a hint of lilac, I love it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Estate emulsion We have used Farrow and Ball throughout the recent house renovations, and opted for estate emulsion in the lounge. So easy to apply, consistent, with a classy finish. We are still waiting for the carpet to be fitted but looks amazing. We used Cornforth White in the Hall and that gets the best reviews.
