Elephant's Breath

A warm mid grey

This warm and contemporary grey is renowned for its characterful paint name, originally created by John Fowler, the notable English interior designer. Elephant's Breath reads as an uplifting mid grey with its hint of magenta, but can become almost lilac in the cooler light of west facing rooms. Try offsetting with Charleston Gray and London Clay for an invitingly earthy scheme with more intense accents, or pair with other Contemporary Neutrals such as the softer Strong White for a sense of neutrality and calm.

Recommended Primer & Undercoat: Mid Tones

Complementary white: Strong White

Elephant's Breath is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 259.

Back in 2010, we moved our entire range to an eco-friendly water base that’s low odour, low VOC and child-safe, becoming the first in the industry to do so. Easy to clean without harmful solvents, in tins that can be recycled again and again, our paints help to reduce the environmental impact of redecorating your home.

Every one of our paint colours is available in a range of durable interior and exterior paint finishes, each rigorously tested to ensure an exceptional depth of colour and long-lasting finish. For the very best results, we always recommend using a Farrow & Ball Primer & Undercoat – see above for the correct tone for this colour.

All Farrow & Ball finishes except Limewash contain isothiazolinones, which may produce an allergic reaction. Farrow & Ball Limewash contains calcium hydroxide which can cause severe damage in contact with skin or eyes. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Kitchen two colour combination After a lot of soul searching took the plunge and painted top units in elephants breath and bottom units in charleston grey Absolutely love it paired with new white stone effect worktop Love the estate eggshell finish and have always found it to be hard-wearing These units were originally dark cherry wood so don't be shy to update - it just needs good prep and patience!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lovely colour, easy to apply. I painted our living room. It’s an east facing room so many taupe / greige colours tend to look purple - know, I put up enough tester colours :-) ... Elephants Breath still retains its colour. I’m very pleased with it. I used the primer first which covered all the tester paints in one go and produced a completely uniform colour on which to paint the top coat which really impressed me. The paint went on really easily with no spattering. Will definitely buy F&B again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A good colour Trying this colour out in an upstairs space. May not be the perfect colour for the space, but the colour itself is quite divine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful Have this on my lounge, dining room and landing walls with a vanilla coloured carpet. Have it in my hall and conservatory with very light grey tiles, looks fantastic with both, cannot fault wish I’d found it before xx

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent paint My decorator said he didn’t like F&B paint so I used this myself. Really excellent paint - easy to apply and great coverage. Looks great too. Also easy to wipe clean. Expensive but will definitely use again.
