Bancha

No.298

A protective olive green

This mid-century modern green is a darker version of the much loved archive colour, Olive. Perfect for those who want to embrace stronger colour in the home, its sober tone creates rooms that feel calm and serene - especially when combined with soft pinks and browns. Named after Japanese tea leaves, Bancha, like a cup of green tea, provides a feeling of security.

ECO-FRIENDLY AND CHILD-SAFE

Back in 2010, we moved our entire range to an eco-friendly water base that’s low odour, low VOC and child-safe, becoming the first in the industry to do so. Easy to clean without harmful solvents, in tins that can be recycled again and again, our paints help to reduce the environmental impact of redecorating your home.

QUALITY FINISHES

Every one of our 132 paint colours is available in a range of durable interior and exterior paint finishes, each rigorously tested to ensure an exceptional depth of colour and long-lasting finish. For the very best results, we always recommend using a Farrow & Ball Primer & Undercoat – see above for the correct tone for this colour.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Gorgeous green that goes with everything Having read some of the reviews I was a bit nervous about my choice (too dark, problems with colour transfer) but I shouldn't have worried - the results are amazing. Its a a stunning colour, makes my room feel really warm, looks great in different lights, ranging from a bright green avocado to darker olive. Its so stylish. The walls were already magnolia and we didn't use a dark undercoat.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This colour looks fabulous I was attracted to this colour by seeing it in the F&B 9 new colours publicity material. I have a very light kitchen with lots of windows/skylights and white ceiling etc so I was keen to try a bold colour. It has really worked. It took 3 coats for the painters to make sure it looked good. 5 litres was enough for the room. It really looks great against our oak windows - it's cosy and classy. There's one tiny patch that doesn't look perfect but I think that's more the problem with the plasterwork/wall than with the paint. We used Modern Emulsion.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Dramatic Green A wonderful dark green with a very slight yellow tone. Our dark, relatively small lounge, looks cosy & dramatic. My very own boutique hotel living room.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good quality but not colour After seeing a picture on farrow and ball website, I thought this was exactly the shade of green I'd been looking for. Although the quality of the paint was good and application was smooth, the colour was much darker than I had expected and as appeared in the pictures. It was a very blackened green and unfortunately too dark for me to use.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointed and £30 poorer. I was not going to write a review as I have nothing positive to say about this product other than we liked the colour which was why we chose Farrow and Ball paint for the first time in my life. I am not a professional painter but have been used to doing all my decorating since I married some 50 years ago and have always had acceptable results using Dulux, Crown and even Homebase paints. I wanted to make a feature of a door, and liked this particular colour. I spent a great deal of time in sanding and priming and it was well prepared but I am afraid the end results were so bad I stripped off the paint, started again and finally completed the job using a Crown product which has proved satisfactory even though not the colour we wanted. I found your paint difficult to use, did not apply well and the surface still felt sticky even days after I completed the job. When I came to rehang the door my hands left finger marks on the surface which I could not remove. I'm prepared to accept the fault was mine but I cannot understand where I went wrong. I would suggest that you gave more information on how to use your product. Other manufactures give advice such as "load brush generously" or "don't overbrush" or "apply with a roller" etc. but you do not. All in all I have to say it is the worst paint I have ever used and certainly the most expensive. £30 down the drain I am sorry I can't offer any sort of praise for this product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Sadly, the Modern Emulsion didn't give the finish I was expecting. I'm normally a very dedicated fan of Farrow & Ball products, which was why I jumped at the chance to freshen up my bathroom with the new Bancha shade. However, after having a professional painter and decorator paint the room, the results have been disappointing to say the least. The green pigment transfers over to towels and doesn't seem to have 'cured' properly - even weeks down the line. I'll be painting over it with a Fired Earth product (which I've used in the past and have never had issue with before in bathrooms and kitchens). A real shame and such a waste of my money!
