Ways of Decorating

Creating a beautifully considered scheme is easier than you may think, and to help you get started we’ve gathered some easy-to-follow tips and tricks. From woodwork and walls to ceilings and floors and even wallpaper, we’ve got tried and tested ways of creating spaces you can’t wait to escape to.

Light on Dark

A true classic, the most traditional style of decorating is to use colour on your walls and white on the woodwork, creating a crisp contrast and feeling of freshness. All our colours have a carefully chosen complementary white, making it easier than ever to complete your scheme.

Dark on Light

For a sophisticated, slightly more unexpected twist, try painting a darker shade on your trim paired with paler walls. This simple trick makes a room seem bigger and airier by making the larger surface of the wall above seem lighter by comparison.

Colour Drenching

Choose a single colour for your whole room to add a sense of calm and simplicity, making your space feel bigger as walls flow seamlessly across woodwork and onto the ceiling. You can also add extra depth through different finishes.

Neutral Groups

One of the easiest ways to create a cohesive, considered scheme is using one of our neutral groups: Traditional, Yellow Based, Red Based, Contemporary, Easy, Architectural. Each group contains shades designed to bring out the best in each other, so all you need to do is choose the group you’re most drawn to for your space.

Wallpaper

Wallpaper is an easy and effective way to add another layer of decorative interest to a scheme. Our collection is handcrafted using our own Farrow & Ball paints, so you can choose a colourway to perfectly match the colour of your walls or opt for a contrasting, complementary colour.
