Railings

No.31

A soft black with blue undertones

More blue than black, Railings is a softer alternative to black which is particularly suited to the ironwork it takes its name from. When used in Full Gloss on front doors it creates a handsome and commanding entrance, but becomes much more relaxed in feel in our Estate Eggshell finish. The bluer undertones of this dark hue transform rooms into dramatic and enveloping interior spaces.

Recommended Primer & Undercoat: Dark Tones

Complementary white: Ammonite

Product Information
ECO-FRIENDLY AND CHILD-SAFE

Back in 2010, we moved our entire range to an eco-friendly water base that’s low odour, low VOC and child-safe, becoming the first in the industry to do so. Easy to clean without harmful solvents, in tins that can be recycled again and again, our paints help to reduce the environmental impact of redecorating your home.

QUALITY FINISHES

Every one of our 132 paint colours is available in a range of durable interior and exterior paint finishes, each rigorously tested to ensure an exceptional depth of colour and long-lasting finish. For the very best results, we always recommend using a Farrow & Ball Primer & Undercoat – see above for the correct tone for this colour.

SAFETY INFORMATION

All Farrow & Ball finishes except Limewash contain isothiazolinones, which may produce an allergic reaction. Farrow & Ball Limewash contains calcium hydroxide which can cause severe damage in contact with skin or eyes. Rated 2 out of 5 by from Lovely colour but poor finish Lovely colour but he careful. In my North facing internal porch it looks dark navy blue. At the back on the South facing back door it is more like graphite. water based gloss takes forever to dry. last summer had to sleep with back door and Windows open and it was still sticky even the next night. Painter says it is poor quality and will need 3 coats to cover streaks in first coat on front door. Have swoped to oil based different brand for front door as back door is already chipping after just one year. I love the emulsion paints and they're worth every penny but will not buy gloss again

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My moody room Painted two walls in my lounge over the weekend. I was quite nervous about going so dark but am absolutely delighted with the end result. I had various people telling me I was mad to go so dark in a relatively small room as it would close the space in, but it really doesn’t, it’s so warm and inviting. I had no problem applying the paint, even the first coat (over lining paper) looked good. I gave it 2 coats which gave a great finish. F&B paint gives a great depth of colour which changes slightly in the different light. All in all I’m a very happy bunny

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fabulous Colour This colour is truly exceptional; I have tried all Black and Dark Blue shades available and nothing comes close to the classy look this colour provides. It feels so sophisticated and contracts buetifully with White and or off white. I was searching for a very Dark inky Blue but couldn’t find a shade to hit the mark until I discovered Railings. The only down side to the paint finish Estate Emulsion is that it marks easily and can’t be wiped clean and because it is a dark colour when light hits the wall the marks can be seen.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The antithesis coastal home colour Every google search shows white, beige or blue rooms with seashells, ships and bottled sand. So when we started painting our north facing Undercliff facing and south facing Channel facings bedrooms Railings our cleaner told her other clients-our next door neighbours about what we were doing she said we had gone crazy. Coastal homes are suppose to be light and airy, not dark and moody. Truthfully I was apprehensive about the change but having seen our neighbours master bedroom painted Stiff Key Blue-walks, ceilings and furniture I felt more confident in our choice. The strong coastal light powers through the darkness making the room feel luxurious and the colours of the English Channel views more dramatic. 13 years of Elephants Breath are coming to an end. The colour works well on both sides of the house. The small north facing room embraces the natural darkness and the paint colour shows off the colourful lithographs on the walls. The master bedroom has a minimal feel with just a single etching and mirror hung on the walls. The silver frames glistening against the blue/black tones. The rooms are not big but the ceilings are high with a slope. Forget what the rule books tell, embrace the darkness. You won’t regret it.
