Light Blue

No.22

A light silvery blue

This silvery blue was so named because it was the lightest blue Farrow & Ball made in its first collection of colours. Light Blue becomes a little more silver in tone when used in shaded areas so is very popular for use on the walls of internal halls, especially when the remainder of the house is painted in cooler, more neutral greys. When used in well lit areas it feels both peaceful and calming, especially when paired with a cool white like Blackened.

Recommended Primer & Undercoat: Mid Tones

Complementary white: Strong White

Light Blue is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 62.

ECO-FRIENDLY AND CHILD-SAFE

Back in 2010, we moved our entire range to an eco-friendly water base that’s low odour, low VOC and child-safe, becoming the first in the industry to do so. Easy to clean without harmful solvents, in tins that can be recycled again and again, our paints help to reduce the environmental impact of redecorating your home.

QUALITY FINISHES

Every one of our 132 paint colours is available in a range of durable interior and exterior paint finishes, each rigorously tested to ensure an exceptional depth of colour and long-lasting finish. For the very best results, we always recommend using a Farrow & Ball Primer & Undercoat – see above for the correct tone for this colour.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful Colour This is a truly exceptional colour - it varies between Blue/Greenish hue depending on the light quality in the room. It somehow manages to be subtle but noticeable for all the right reasons. Fabulous to live with - it is the base colour for most of my home and I have used it for about 10 years in several houses and I never get bored of it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pretty colour I have painted the interior walls in the house throughout in strong white and cornforth white and wanted a colour to compliment the scheme for the upstairs doors and after many paint samples later I used light blue on the bedroom doors and bathroom doors. This is definitely one of my favourite farrow and ball colours to date, really happy with the final result and have had lots of compliments about the colour. I was looking for a pale blue grey colour and this is definitely more aqua than blue. Try this colour even if you are like me and not a green tone fan because its really gorgeous and you will be converted!! If you have Carrera marble in your bathrooms this colour really compliments the silvery grey tones of the marble and I have used pewter door furniture which again look well with this colour. The decorator did have to apply three coats but the end result was worthwhile.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from lovely colour this colour is subtle. It is pale blue in natural light and tending more towards grey in artificial light. Nice colour in both forms

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful We chose light blue estate eggshell to paint a black unused wood burner. The burner was originally used to heat our very old cottage but has not been in use for 15 years. We just kept as an original feature. The paint covered beautifully and evenly without that nasty toxic smell. Delighted as always with F&B

Rated 5 out of 5 by from STUNNING - a complex, lively but low-key blue that hints at sea-green As someone else has said, 'Light Blue' is the least evocative of names (esp. for F&B) but therein lies an exquisite irony because this is one of the most complex, sophisticated blue/tungsten/green I have ever had the pleasure of staring at. I have had it up in 3 rooms for 5 years! West-, East- and North-facing. In the West-facing room it is exquisite. Moody, pale-ish but rich blue with a sea-green tint in cloudy weather but when the afternoon sun shines it comes alive with an subdued but lively blue, but always somehow with an edge of tungsten grey that gives the most gorgeous contrast. It's rich but subtle. Honestly, one can sit and drink it in for ages, like one can the sea at Brighton on a calm day. In the East-facing room it is similarly rich, with a glorious glow in the morning sun. Throughout the afternoon is stays more moody, towards sea-green but never, ever getting there. Again, despite moodiness it is alive with colour. The more disappointing room is the North-facing bathroom, which is small with 2 windows with suffused light coming in (oh, and 5 high-end warm white LED downlighters). Here, it mainly looks aqua, and has much less of the moodiness and tungsten. Enough for me to want to repaint it. I guess in summary Light Blue needs any kind of natural light, whatever direction, and gets washed out under intense artificial light. It is by far my favourite colour, because it straddles that amazing blue / sea-green range and has that grey character that somehow suffuses rather than replaces.
