India Yellow

A strong and moody yellow

This deep mustard yellow is famously named after the pigment collected from the urine of cows fed on a special diet of mango leaves! It creates a really cosy and surprisingly un-yellow space when contrasted with a dark tone like Tanner's Brown. It should, however, be used in moderation in small rooms where its moody intensity may be a little overwhelming.

Recommended Primer & Undercoat: Mid Tones

Complementary white: Matchstick

India Yellow is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 133.

Back in 2010, we moved our entire range to an eco-friendly water base that’s low odour, low VOC and child-safe, becoming the first in the industry to do so. Easy to clean without harmful solvents, in tins that can be recycled again and again, our paints help to reduce the environmental impact of redecorating your home.

Every one of our paint colours is available in a range of durable interior and exterior paint finishes, each rigorously tested to ensure an exceptional depth of colour and long-lasting finish. For the very best results, we always recommend using a Farrow & Ball Primer & Undercoat – see above for the correct tone for this colour.

All Farrow & Ball finishes except Limewash contain isothiazolinones, which may produce an allergic reaction. Farrow & Ball Limewash contains calcium hydroxide which can cause severe damage in contact with skin or eyes. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful colour!!! We’ve painted the dining room of our B&B in India Yellow. It is a beautiful, mustardy yellow - very rich and elegant looking. It only took one coat (the previous light grey colour probably helped as an undercoat), and the Matt finish is lovely. Very pleased!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Makes painting enjoyable! So glad I found this brand of paint, it is so easy to apply and makes painting enjoyable! The coverage is excellent so you don't need as much as you would with other paint. We calculated we would need around 3 litres for the space we wanted to paint so bought a 5 litre can. However, we only used about a quarter of the can so got loads left. In hindsight we should have bought 2 x 2.5l cans and returned the unopened one, but know for next time. Farrow & Ball will definitely be my go to brand in future, highly recommended!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sample pots India Yellow I did my bedroom recently with one tin of India Yellow (2 coats on three walls). Third wall just needed a slight touch up, bought 2 of the sample pots, used one and have a spare left. Beautiful paint, lovely consistency, will definitely be using elsewhere in my home.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from North-facing room transformed We used Farrow and Ball's Yellow Ground on three walls and White Tie on doors, ceiling and skirting with a Laura Ashley Geranium wall-paper on the other wall in a north facing room. Looks cosy in winter and sunshiny in summer. Lovely.
