Hague Blue

No.30

A deep dark blue

This strong blue takes its name from the fantastically coloured woodwork much used by the Dutch, and still works wonderfully to ground skirtings or as an accent colour on the walls when teamed with Borrowed Light. The green undertones of this timeless, deep and dramatic blue means it sits as happily outside as it does in small dark rooms.

Recommended Primer & Undercoat: Dark Tones

Complementary white: Old White

ECO-FRIENDLY AND CHILD-SAFE

Back in 2010, we moved our entire range to an eco-friendly water base that’s low odour, low VOC and child-safe, becoming the first in the industry to do so. Easy to clean without harmful solvents, in tins that can be recycled again and again, our paints help to reduce the environmental impact of redecorating your home.

QUALITY FINISHES

Every one of our paint colours is available in a range of durable interior and exterior paint finishes, each rigorously tested to ensure an exceptional depth of colour and long-lasting finish. For the very best results, we always recommend using a Farrow & Ball Primer & Undercoat – see above for the correct tone for this colour.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Choose estate emulsion for hague blue! We bought the Modern Emulsion as we were painting the hallway and know it would be much more wipeable. This of course is very practical but what we didnt know was how shiny this would be in this dark colour - it showed up every fault in the wall and wasn't at all the look we were after. So we bought the estate emulsion instead, painted over the modern emulsion and it looks 100x better, really lovely. I think for the lighter colours to difference is less dramatic, but for dark ones unless you don't mind it being glossy, I would suggest the estate emulsion.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fabulously deep colour and amazing coverage Well, I have to say, I wasn't sure about this when I bought it - I'd never painted a room with anything this dark before but now it's up on the walls, it's officially my favourite room of the house. Fantastic coverage as we painted as well. Although we did put up two coats (we were painting on to white) we really only just needed the second coat, the coverage was so good first time round.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Blue Hague Matt emulsion This is the first time I went dark with paint especially on a big wall. The outcome was that of a wallpaper; smooth and pristine. It pays to spend time prepping to make sure that surface is ready to absorb the paint properly. But the paint is very easy to apply and wonderful to work with. You have definitely put a lot of effort on your paints. I am also particular about smelly paint and yours definitely do not belong in that category. So 5 stars!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This colour is now justly famous I would love to talk about the depth, the perfect temperature, the great character of this colour, but the main thing is that it’s beautiful, dramatic, atmospheric. I really impressed my new sister in law by saying “is that Hague Blue on your wall”?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful colour and beautiful to work with. My kitchen cabinets were in need of refreshing, being pale, chipped and tired looking. Having seen the dramatic effect I wanted to refresh my kitchen cabinets which were pale, chipped and tired looking. I had been impressed by the dramatic impact that F&B's Hague Blue had made to a friend's living room walls, so I decided to try the same bold approach in my kitchen. The walls are old white and so the contrast, I felt, could work well. Considering the current pandemic, delivery was prompt and the paint well packaged. I had calculated how much was required but was a little concerned that the 2.5l may not be enough. I needn't have worried. Having prepared the wood, the initial undercoat, understandably, did soak in more than subsequent coats. However, as only one coat is needed, this isn't a problem. It can be tempting to just apply a single top coat, but it's important not to skimp here, as the two coats result in a reflective depth and richness of colour, not achieved with a single application. The top coat, also reassuringly thick, glides on beautifully with excellent coverage and no drips. It dries to touch within two hours. I've still got some top coat left for touching up, although I doubt it will be needed, as the final finish is durable and easy to wipe clean. The Hague Blue colour changes throughout the day with the outside light filtering in through the windows. The kitchen is double aspect, so gets both early morning and evening sun. The tones change through the blue spectrum from a velvety deep turquoise in direct sunlight, to almost midnight black by the evening. It even looks like velvet due to the depth and complexity of the colour, however, it has a practical low sheen, making cleaning easy. I'm not great with VOC's in paint and tend to go for paints which are completely VOC free. It's my first time using F&B paint and found that it does have a slight smell which caused a little irritation, however, not enough to be problematic, and the results definitely outweigh this. Overall, a high quality product which is easy to apply and results in a beautiful finish of surprisingly complex colour. coat is needed this isn't a problem.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hague Blue The most amazing colour. I was really nervous about using a dark colour as out of my comfort zone but needn't have worried, it looks fabulous in my bedroom and will use it in my sitting room too.
