Dove Tale

No.267

A warm grey with lilac undertones

Dove Tale is a darker version of Elephant's Breath and is perfect for those who are hoping for a warm grey finish. Typical of the colours used by the bohemian Bright Young Things between the wars, it is the perfect choice for the bedroom as its gentle lilac undertone create a soft and inviting feel. Pair with Skimming Stone for the most flattering and subtle scheme.

Recommended Primer & Undercoat: Mid Tones

Complementary white: Strong White

ECO-FRIENDLY AND CHILD-SAFE

Back in 2010, we moved our entire range to an eco-friendly water base that’s low odour, low VOC and child-safe, becoming the first in the industry to do so. Easy to clean without harmful solvents, in tins that can be recycled again and again, our paints help to reduce the environmental impact of redecorating your home.

QUALITY FINISHES

Every one of our 132 paint colours is available in a range of durable interior and exterior paint finishes, each rigorously tested to ensure an exceptional depth of colour and long-lasting finish. For the very best results, we always recommend using a Farrow & Ball Primer & Undercoat – see above for the correct tone for this colour.

SAFETY INFORMATION

All Farrow & Ball finishes except Limewash contain isothiazolinones, which may produce an allergic reaction. Farrow & Ball Limewash contains calcium hydroxide which can cause severe damage in contact with skin or eyes. Customer Reviews
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this colour I made a big mistake with our dining room. We papered one wall in Rosslyn 1921 (which we loved), but then went with the coordinating rectory red. I hated it and couldn’t even be in the room. In desperation, I contacted F&B, and they recommended Dove Tale. It’s a wonderful colour, very warm and a little bit contemporary, but still works in a period setting. Coordinates beautifully with the paper, and really highlights it, and turns different shades according to the light. Our painter liked it so much he was trying to think of where photos to use it in his house (although he’s just finished doing it up!).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just the job! Great colour to go in our new blingy bedroom. Goes nicely with Kylie Minogue bedsets!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from But what colour actually is it?! I have read it described as grey, green and not at all lilac in previous reviews which bemuses me, as as far as I'm concerned it's definitely a greyish, beigeish lilac! I have used it in a narrow, dark, artificially lit hallway and up the stairs which has a south-facing window onto the landing where it looks much brighter. It works with the existing carpet and curtains but has an almost transcendental feeling in the sunlight (better suited to a bedroom than a landing I feel?). I am going to try painting below the dado in Brinjal which I hope will make it feel more grown up and less airy-fairy! The paint was usual F&B good quality. Even the decorator, a breed not known for F&B fandom, agreed that the coverage wasn't bad. I painted the lower bits and found it fine and easy to apply.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Usual Perfct Finish Tired of my pine furniture, I painted all my living room furniture in Elephant Breath. I was recently given a coffee table that I have up-cycled. I thought a complimentary shade of Dove Tale would offer a contrast to Elephant’s Breath. I love the Dove Tale that has slightly more grey tones than Elephan’s Breath but in reality it is a little too near Elephant’s breath to offer a good contrast. I am not displeased however it sill looks great!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Like it, but.... Chose Dove Tale for a small hallway which leads to a Skimming Stone/Elephant's Breath west facing living room whose colours I love. However in the south facing hallway the colour looks muddy, daytime and night. Moral of the story - take care with the aspect and size of the room you choose to put it in. Usual lovely finish though and easy to put on.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from First French Gray - now Dove Tale - good combination. These really are faultless products. They flow off the brush well. Choosing the colour is a bit of a tease although the descriptions do help a lot. Wish I had more painting to do!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Ideal for a Grade II listed property Lime wash is a nightmare to work with because it is, by its nature, messy stuff because it's really runny. The darker the colour the harder work it is too, because you need at least 4 coats of this colour to start losing the brush marks. But, the finished colour is beautiful, and the finish is almost velvety unlike anything you will ever get from a modern paint. Don't be frightened by the fact that it paints on a chocolate brown - it takes faith but it does dry a lot lot paler!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Soft sophisticated grey I used this in our north and west-facing sitting room, I wanted to create a warm sophisticated feel without going too dark as it doesn't get much sun. Very pleased with the end result, the paint went on beautifully (estate emulsion, as I wanted the flat matt finish), three coats and it looks perfect. It's a gorgeous warm grey with hints of purple and chocolate, no blue tones. Looks great against a sandstone fireplace and dark grey window frames. Paint worth the expense in my opinion.
