Brinjal

No.222

A sophisticated aubergine

Brinjal takes its name from the beautifully deep and shiny skin of the aubergine, so it is particularly magnificent in Full Gloss. It can create a warm and highly sophisticated finish when used on all walls, but is more often used as a feature wall to enhance a neutral Skimming Stone scheme or as an accent on the underside of a bath or kitchen island.

Recommended Primer & Undercoat: Red & Warm Tones

Complementary white: Skimming Stone

Product Information
ECO-FRIENDLY AND CHILD-SAFE

Back in 2010, we moved our entire range to an eco-friendly water base that’s low odour, low VOC and child-safe, becoming the first in the industry to do so. Easy to clean without harmful solvents, in tins that can be recycled again and again, our paints help to reduce the environmental impact of redecorating your home.

QUALITY FINISHES

Every one of our 132 paint colours is available in a range of durable interior and exterior paint finishes, each rigorously tested to ensure an exceptional depth of colour and long-lasting finish. For the very best results, we always recommend using a Farrow & Ball Primer & Undercoat – see above for the correct tone for this colour.

SAFETY INFORMATION

All Farrow & Ball finishes except Limewash contain isothiazolinones, which may produce an allergic reaction. Farrow & Ball Limewash contains calcium hydroxide which can cause severe damage in contact with skin or eyes. Customer Reviews
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fabulous paints at F&B Bought the Brinjal for a bathroom. Looks absolutely wonderful. Its a very warm and welcoming colour. Paint goes on with ease and hardly smells at all which is great as my husband has asthma.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointing colour match to chart I had hoped this colour would be an aubergine colour but I would describe it as a vivid purple. I appreciate that it may be a challenge to colour match paints exactly to the paint charts but as I buy from a paint chart a good match is essential to me. Darrow and Ball must be aware of those paints they struggle to match exactly and I think a warning to customers would be fair. I cannot use this colour. The paint is costly and I cannot risk paints which do not colour match. Very disappointing as other colours are very accurate and I have rated them highly.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Stunning colour, but difficult application The final colour is beautiful, however the application is very very uneven (used both on walls (emulsion) and for shelving unit (eggshell). Both walls and cupboard were primed. Walls took 3 coats and cupboards have taken around 4 applications until I've got a solid colour. Incredibly streaky, 'sticky' and uneven to apply. Not an easy product to work with either, unlike other F&B paints I've used in the past. It is a shame, but if I had realised, It would put me off from getting any other red based colour.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Different tone from previous batch We already had Brinjal in one room, and needed to repaint following some work. The result has been highly disappointing, as it has both a different finish and different tone, so we now have to repaint the entire room.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love the colour, but... I really love the colour and have gone to a lot of effort to have my bathroom painted in this colour. The starting board was a perfectly replastered (mesh master plasterer) small toilet room and a really outstanding painter. It took 4 coats and it still isn't perfect when the sun hits it. We have had our entire 4-bedroom house replastered/gutted/re-painted mostly with Farrow and Ball. I love this colour, but the pigments make it a challenge. So, if you love the colour as I really do, be prepared to use more paint and spend more money than you expected on the decorator.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A sophisticated colour We chose Brinjal to make a feature wall on.our chimney breast in the dining and music room. It is a perfect choice that changes throughout the day but at evening is rich, warm and classically voluptuous

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Product I used this product to paint the wooden frame of a double bed. The nature of using eggshell is that you need to work fast and not go over the same brushstrokes as this paint does go off very quickly. If you are new to using eggshell you may find this paint quite tricky to handy but aside from that it has a nice finish and the colour is strong. The pigment dries slightly lighter and more 'pink' than i thought it would, but it's still a really strong, striking colour.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful warm rich welcoming colour My entrance hall used to always be painted F&B Downpipe grey. Which was fantastic however this time round I fancied making a change and decided eventually on Brinjal.Well I have to say I love it! It’s a very warm, rich and welcoming colour and gives real drama to the entrance hall. I think it’s my new favourite colour! It applied easily though I always use a brush not a roller as I find it provides a much better powder finish. I tied it in with pointing white ceilings and woodwork and the whole scheme pulled together really well. Using gold framed pictures also works really well for classical elegance.. Overall could not be happier with the finished result. Sorry about the photos being the wrong orientation they seem to turn 90 degrees every time I upload them.
