Borrowed Light

No.235

A pale and illuminating blue

Evoking the colour of summer skies, Borrowed Light is a wonderfully pale blue named after the delicate light that cascades through small windows and fanlights. It works as well in a room deprived of light as it does in an airy sunroom. This soft and classic tone is perfectly suited to children’s bedrooms, especially when contrasted with Stiffkey Blue on furniture or woodwork.

Recommended Primer & Undercoat: White & Light Tones

Complementary white: All White

Back in 2010, we moved our entire range to an eco-friendly water base that’s low odour, low VOC and child-safe, becoming the first in the industry to do so. Easy to clean without harmful solvents, in tins that can be recycled again and again, our paints help to reduce the environmental impact of redecorating your home.

Every one of our 132 paint colours is available in a range of durable interior and exterior paint finishes, each rigorously tested to ensure an exceptional depth of colour and long-lasting finish. For the very best results, we always recommend using a Farrow & Ball Primer & Undercoat – see above for the correct tone for this colour.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Dream bathroom I wanted a colour that opened up my bathroom. I wanted to create a feeling of space:l light and shade, a feeling of calm !

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Extraordinary color Replaced much-loved pale blue "cloud motif" color-washed wall treatment, thinking we would do the same after repairing and replastering. The light in the room is from the North and West, rarely getting direct sunlight due to the tall trees on our property. "Borrowed Light" is a great title for this pale blue - it makes the walls come alive to the point that we won't even need to paint the sky on it again! Another wonderful Estate Emulsion with elusive depth and variety in one colour...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from beautiful colour I love the colour of 'borrowed light'... it's a fresh and tranquil colour, and although the paint dried quicker than I expected... which mean't had to work faster to get the finish I wanted.... after the initial mistakes on first wall I painted, because of this, I quickly got hang of it, and very pleased with the end resullt, in terms of finish and colour....... it's a beautiful cloudy pale blue, that in areas where has more light, can almost loo silvery white, but takes on a deeper shade of blue/grey in darker areas... love it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lovely colour I wanted a blue bedroom and this colour is not too strong-just a tint of blue.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from tones beautifully with F&B Skylight Just finished our hall with Borrowed Light above the dado, Skylight below and All White gloss on the dado and other paintwork to offset the flatness of the emulsion. It looks even better than I thought. As the light filters through the door and hits the shades they change, blend and contrast in lovely combinations.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it Used with all white for skirting/coving/celing and Stiffkey Blue for the alcove shelves. I will be bold and admit, having using dozens and dozens of tins of F&B paint, the walls were actually a Leyland mix (the decorator's mistake), though the rest was all pure F&B. Honestly, not sure there was much difference for estate emulsion (we used a ton of estatae emulsions in the rest of the house). Though for wood paint, I would not consider anything cheaper than F&B ( more expensive Paper Paint Library, architect's eggshell, which is probably better; I am undecided if Little Greene makes a better wood paint...overall F&B is a good product and they are easy to use for colour schemes).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Updated kitchen units Had my wooden kitchen cupboards painted with this 4 years ago. It cleans up beautifully but I keep a tin of it for touching up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent quality which my painter likes.. F and B always good quality and I use it a lot. Normally I purchase it from Huddersfield Decorators. Last year we used 2 of the colours in our hall etc A year later and it still looks as good, toning in with an 18 th Century house.
