Stiffkey Blue

No.281

An inky navy

This inky blue is named after the Norfolk beach where the mud, along with the cockles, share a particular deep navy hue. Although traditional in feel, Stiffkey Blue is often used as an alternative to Down Pipe to create a richly dramatic space with a more contemporary finish. When used in well lit areas of the home it will appear much bluer, working wonderfully when contrasted with Ammonite.

Recommended Primer & Undercoat: Dark Tones

Complementary white: Shadow White

Stiffkey Blue is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 411.

ECO-FRIENDLY AND CHILD-SAFE

Back in 2010, we moved our entire range to an eco-friendly water base that’s low odour, low VOC and child-safe, becoming the first in the industry to do so. Easy to clean without harmful solvents, in tins that can be recycled again and again, our paints help to reduce the environmental impact of redecorating your home.

QUALITY FINISHES

Our paint colours are available in a range of durable interior and exterior paint finishes, each rigorously tested to ensure an exceptional depth of colour and long-lasting finish. For the very best results, we always recommend using a Farrow & Ball Primer & Undercoat – see above for the correct tone for this colour.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Warm hug blue Couldn’t decide between Hague Blue and Stiffkey Blue for our lounge. But went with Stiffkey in the end. Then discovered my identical twin sister has the same colour on her recently painted kitchen units. Fancy that! Anyway it looks just as we expected it to - wonderful. Makes a very big chance for our usual light colours.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from New to F&B paints After almost 40 years of home decorating and renovation, I have just used F&B paints for the first time. Choosing Railings in both Estate Emulsion and Eggshell I am full of praise for the product. The coverage and finish quality of the emulsion was second to none! I had read mixed reviews about the Eggshell being hard to work with and if you are the sort of decorator who just wants to do quick touch up to woodwork or metalwork then it probably isn’t the paint for you. A sound surface preparation is essential and be prepared to apply multiple coats ( 4 coats were needed for my radiator). I used a small flat artist brush to apply sparingly and tried not to worry too much about the initial streaky application which diminishes with subsequent coats I am so pleased I stuck with it. The finish is fantastic! Absolutely worth the extra effort. Fabulous paint and I will use F&B as my first choice from now on Jonathan

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Living room feature wall I wanted to create a 'dining corner' in my large open plan living room by using a dark blue on 2 adjoining walls - choosing Stiffkey Blue (after lots of deliberation between that and Hague Blue!) Stiffkey won out just because it worked slightly better in the light of the room (NW facing) and went slightly better with my other colours. (I chose Dulux Natural Calico for the other walls and white woodwork). I chose Modern Emulsion after reading reviews that the standard matte finish does not even stand up to fingerprints and I don't want that. Also it's a modern flat and I think it suits the slight sheen. I am so happy with the result - it really works to create atmosphere and I think a couple of copper light fittings will be the finishing touch :-)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better on the wall! We knew the colour was going to be as described, but when on the wall it’s even better. You really do get what you pay for! Works really well even in small spaces.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Feeling Blue & Happy Tried a couple of testers first but quickly settled for a nice, rich petrol blue & Stiffkey No: 281 fitted the bill perfectly. It's for the sunroom; think rich blues & browns, squishy leather sofs, Harris Tweed & sheep skin rugs, brass industrial lighting. Skiffkey Blue is perfect. I chose an estate emulsion for wood & metal. A absolute joy to apply & water based for easy cleaning of brushes. A nice aroma of new painted room came free. So good I even commissioned a small piece of art for the room too.
