Our richly pigmented paints are created to work in harmony with every part of your world. From our water bases to our responsible practices, our eco-friendly paint formulas to our recyclable materials, we’re committed to reducing our impact on the earth without compromising on quality.

Back in 2010, we were the first in the industry to move to an entirely water based range. Now, all of our paints are not only classed as Minimal or Low VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds), but far exceed the standard for those categories.

VOCs are the culprits behind the strong smell of some traditional paints, a result of pollutants being released into the atmosphere as the paint dries. By contrast, our low odour finishes don’t release any nasty fumes, giving you a product that’s safe, comfortable to apply and live with, and kinder to the environment.

Our uncompromising dedication to quality is evident in every component of our paint, from the responsibly sourced pigments that give it its rich colour to its iconic and infinitely recyclable tin. We’re also uncompromising about who we work with, ensuring we only source ingredients from suppliers who share our ethos.

Indoor Air Quality

Every one of our paints scores A+ for the French Indoor Air Quality Decree N° 2011-321 – Arrêté April 2011, even our hard-working trim and floor paints. As more improvements are made to the way homes are built, giving us better insulation and heat retention, it’s more important than ever before to choose a paint that promotes better indoor air quality and greater comfort.

Child & Baby-Safe Paint

Our 100% water based Modern and Estate ranges aren’t just better for the world around us, they’re also certified child and baby safe in accordance with Toy Safety Standards, meaning they’re better for the little ones who share your world, too.

With hardly any odour, low levels of VOCs and quick drying formulations, our baby-safe paint gives you the peace of mind to bring a splash of colour to cots, nurseries, children’s bedrooms and playrooms.

Our gentle formulations are even safe to use on toys, so you can give their favourite playthings a colourful new look without worry, and they can carry on playing to their heart’s content. They also don’t need any nasty solvents – which are especially dangerous around children – to clean up.

We don’t test any of our paint on animals – we never have, and we never will, so you can always rest assured that you’re painting your home with a proudly cruelty-free product.

Our most commonly used finishes (Estate Emulsion, Estate EggshellModern EmulsionModern EggshellFull GlossExterior Eggshell, and Exterior Masonry) are vegan-friendly, containing no animal-derived ingredients.

Two of our specialist finishes, Soft Distemper and Casein Distemper, contain animal-derived ingredients: an ingredient derived from leather offcuts and acid casein from milk, respectively. As such, these are the only two non-vegan products in our range.

Our Business

Our dedication to the environment doesn’t begin and end with the products we make – it’s also in the way we do business. Every year we continue to take steps to reduce the environmental impact of our day-to-day operations, including:

• Recycling 100% of the dry waste from our Dorset factory
• Recycling 97% of our liquid waste at our own water treatment facility, and working to get this to 100%
• Creating our cardboard packaging with 75% recycled material, a figure that’s increasing all the time
• Working with FSC® certified printers, who use FSC® certified paper, to produce our printed pieces, from colour cards and brochures to postcards and letters
• Complying with the Energy Saving Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) across all of our UK sites, and being audited by the Environmental Agency to ensure our compliance

In the British Coatings Federation’s Coatings Care awards, we were named Best Improver in 2015, Overall Winner in 2016, and finalists in 2017 and 2018. These awards are judged on a range of key performance indicators including energy consumption, waste and recycling, and VOC emissions.

Our commitment to environmentally responsible practices has also been recognised by Certification ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management Systems Standard (Certificate number 25345/F/0001/UK/En), which recognises our enhanced performance, continued compliance, and achievement of ongoing environmental objectives. We’re proud to have been certified every year since 2005, and annual certification is one of our continuous improvement policies.

We’re also committed to helping our local businesses to achieve their environmental potential, and actively share our experiences and best practices with them.
