Farrow & Ball X Vinterior: Upcycling at its Finest

13 February 2023

If you’re an avid reader of The Chromologist, you’ll have seen that last week we announced our exciting collaboration with Vinterior, the online pre-owned furniture marketplace. Well, today we’re delighted to reveal the finished product: our joint capsule collection of freshly painted, pre-loved furniture. We set out to show the full potential of pre-loved and inspire you to give it a go yourself, and we think this collection does just that.

Effortlessly blending sustainability and style, the collection was created by three sellers — Pato Interiors, Belton & Butler and Chloe Kempster — who hand-selected pieces from the pre-owned marketplace and reimagined them using a selection of our 11 new colours and our super tough Modern Eggshell finish. Keep reading to see the spectacular results.

Chloe Kempster

Chloe transformed this antique tallboy using clean, mid green Beverly and a playful harlequin-style print, resulting in a striking piece that adds character to any space.

‘When I think of Farrow & Ball, I always think of colours with a sense of heritage and so I really wanted to find a piece to suit them. This antique tallboy is timeless and good quality with that feeling of authentic British heritage, which was exactly what I was looking for.’

Belton and Butler

One of the pieces transformed by the Belton & Butler duo is this kidney-shaped walnut table with a strong Art Deco feel. They used Whirlybird to add a subtle pop of colour, while still maintaining the table’s character. But for this pair, upcycling is about maintaining the planet too.

‘Sustainability has risen swiftly up the agenda in recent years, and rightly so. It's taken too long but I think we all now realise we have a role to play in protecting our environment. Repurposing and restoring vintage furniture, instead of sending it off to landfill, is a big step in the right direction.’

Pato Interiors

Kat from Pato Interiors chose to reimagine this wash basin using Selvedge, a laid-back blue that feels familiar and friendly. Then, when choosing colours for a toy box, she chose vibrant Bamboozle for the exterior and contrasting Wine Dark for the inside. Her top tip for anyone wanting to give upcycling a go?

‘Patience and prep! Prepping the piece can be messy, time consuming and sometimes quite physically demanding but it’s so worth it. When it comes to actually painting the furniture, you have to be patient: light coat after light coat achieves the best result. Plus, if you apply heavily you’ll have drip marks and uneven patches and will just have to go back, sand and repaint anyway!’
