Farrow & Ball colours have always had an extraordinary response to changes in light as the day unfolds. This couldn’t be truer than with understated Hay - a yellow that glows softly rather than shouts.  With its timeless appeal, Hay makes a beautiful choice for a welcoming hallway, continuing alongside staircases and onto landings, bringing a softness to the centre of a home.

Joa Studholme, Colour Curator for Farrow & Ball, offers a helpful word of advice for creating schemes with this tone. “Resist using Hay with a bright white on trim or ceilings. Its magical charms are much better suited to work with a traditional white like Tallow to get a super soft, sophisticated yet mellow feel.”

A Warm, Comforting Scheme

By using Hay on the walls along with Sudbury Yellow and highly saturated Duster on the trim, Joa describes this scheme as one which would create “an enveloping effect that gives everything a sense of dimension despite using tones

which are all from the same colour family.”

A Peaceful Scheme

Hay creates beautifully restful spaces, especially when partnered with the serene, muted tones of Lime White and Off-White. It makes a perfect scheme for a welcoming yet calm nursery.
