Three Perfect Neutrals for Easy Looks

Written on 18th March 2021

It could be a while before we get to feel the sand between our toes and the sea breeze in our hair again. So, to tide us over, we asked Patrick O’Donnell to share his three favourite neutrals for creating laid-back beachy vibes, from the more traditional Bone to the Malibu-inspired Sand, a newcomer from our California Collection.

Sand No.CC2

Sand moodboard created by Kelly Wearstler

Sand is one of our new colours from The California Collection. While inspired by the beach and coastal homes of Malibu, it has a wonderful universality to bring a gentle warmth to any home, any time you feel that a white simply won’t do!

Use as a wall colour in Estate Emulsion for a relaxed bedroom, painting wardrobes in Parma Gray to add another dimension and keeping the woodwork and ceiling simple with Wimborne White. This scheme, particularly when drenched in late-afternoon light, will transport you to the SoCal coast.

Jitney No.293

Jitney is another of our palette’s references to coastal living, this time heading east from California to The Hamptons. It’s another brilliant neutral – deeper than Sand, with a gentle, brown-tinged warmth that will add depth to any room, but an ideal choice for a light-starved hallway.

You can play your woodwork or trim two ways, either with the gentle off-white notes of Slipper Satin or, for richly elegant tonal drama, with London Clay. Whichever one you decide on, try it in our Modern Eggshell finish.

Bone No.15

Bone is one of our oldest colours, and still hugely popular. This easy, green-tinged neutral is so versatile, feeling fresh and modern when used in a kitchen teamed with Down Pipe cabinets, or elegantly ‘old school’ when layered with similarly nuanced neutrals such as Off-White and Mouse’s Back for an earthy, relaxed sitting room. Layer with ‘country house’ red or green linen florals and discreet jacquard weaves for a timeless look.
