The experience of moving into your first home can be in equal parts exciting and nerve-wracking, and deciding how to decorate it is no exception.

Even if you have a Pinterest board bursting with ideas and a strong sense of your own style, it can be easy to get swept up in the seemingly endless possibilities and end up stalling on creating your dream space. Luckily, that’s exactly where our colour consultancy service can help.

In today’s post, we’re chatting with a first-time buyer who enlisted an expert Farrow & Ball Colour Consultant to help them choose the colours and finishes for their new apartment, creating a welcoming space that reflects their personality, meets the practical needs of their day-to-day life, and – most importantly of all – feels like home.

How did you find the process?

I found out about Farrow & Ball colour consultancy through my boyfriend’s parents, who have used it lots. They told us it would take all the hassle out of choosing the colours (and stop us from arguing about them!)

What was the benefit of using a Colour Consultant to help choose your colours?

We didn’t have to get hundreds of sample pots and it was great to see all the colours in the flat and have it explained how the light would make them look at different times of day. Also, we ended up with a really easy to follow, detailed list of which colour and type of paint went where.

How did you feel about the property before, and how do you feel about it now?

Although we loved the flat before it was pretty boring, and now it feels really special.  Everyone comments on the new colours! We never would have chosen such bold colours but we are really pleased with the end result.

We weren’t sure if it was worth painting the white kitchen to a slightly greyer tone, but it has totally transformed the space. Also, we would never have thought about using the glossy finish on the bottom half of the walls in the hall, but it looks really great and is perfect for stopping the scuffs from our bikes.

What does the new décor offer to the feel of the property?

It feels much more cared-for and thought-about, and we love going into our little dark TV area. And our bedroom is super cosy in the evening but also calming for yoga during the day.

Would you have a colour consultancy again?

Of course. I would recommend it to anyone, it’s the best thing that we have done in the flat – I can’t believe the difference.
