Blue paint is a perennial favourite for all kinds of homes, popping up in palettes year after year – and next year looks to be no different. In this second instalment of our 2021 Colour Trends series, Colour Curator Joa Studholme reveals the blues that will be adorning homes all through next year.

“The blues best suited to anchoring our homes in 2021 are cleaner tones like lively Pitch Blue, fresh Ultra Marine Blue, and the darker, inkier shades of Stiffkey Blue and Titmouse Blue,” says Joa. “These uncomplicated shades feel familiar, and so they have a soothing effect in the home despite their cooler undertones.”

The beauty of these colours also lies in their versatility, as Joa attests: “If you want a more formal and traditional look, try these blues with All White or Ammonite woodwork – this high-contrast look especially sings in well-lit spaces, but these blues also look wonderful in low light, where they feel richer and more luxurious.”

And for something more contemporary? “For a simple but immersive colour experience,” she says, “use the same colour on walls and woodwork, using Modern Emulsion and Modern Eggshell to create a finish that’s both luxurious and wipeable.”
