Creating Confidence with Virtual Colour Consultancy

Creating Confidence with Virtual Colour Consultancy

11 November 2024

When decorating a home, the world is your oyster. While this freedom can be wonderfully liberating, the endless possibilities can also be a little intimidating. Especially if you’re decorating your entire home all at once, like Alyson Morgan. As Alyson explains: ‘It was overwhelming to begin to choose a colour palette. I knew I wanted organic, inviting spaces but I didn’t know where to begin.

Luckily, Alyson knew exactly where to turn for expert advice to make the whole process easier: a Farrow & Ball Colour Consultant. With our virtual colour consultancy service, Alyson enjoyed bespoke advice tailored to her style, space and needs, all over video call. Together, they brought Alyson’s dream home to life and brought some much-needed joy back to her decorating journey.

‘Colour consultancy took into account all the nuisance of the space,’ continues Alyson, ‘from the light to the other materials in the space. The support made the whole process easier and the colour palette flows from room to room, while maintaining the individuality of each space.’

Kitchen and Dining Room

Kitchen - Walls: School House White No.291 in Modern Emulsion; Cabinets: Stirabout No.300 in Modern Eggshell. Dining Room - Walls: School House White No.291 in Modern Emulsion

‘I’ve always wanted a white kitchen,’ explains Alyson, ‘a neutral background for dance parties, meals shared and florals fresh from the garden. But I also wanted the palette to be organic and warm.’

Naturally, our Colour Consultant delivered. The palette of School House White and Stirabout is both calming and cosy, while also perfectly complementing the wood of the kitchen island and ceiling beams. It’s a wonderfully versatile space that suits lazy weekend breakfasts and late-night celebrations.

Boot Room

Built-In: Treron No.292 in Modern Eggshell; Walls: School House White No.291 in Modern Emulsion

In her boot room, Alyson wanted practical with a pop of colour. So, to keep from overwhelming this small space, our Colour Consultant recommended neutral walls with the storage painted in Treron.

The finished look has certainly gone down a treat with Alyson: ‘The balance between the two colours is perfect. The splash of Treron has made this room one of my favourites in the whole house.’

Son’s Bedroom

Upper walls and ceiling: Joa’s White No.226 in Modern Emulsion; Lower walls and woodwork: Bamboozle No. 304 in Modern Eggshell

When it came to her son’s bedroom, Alyson faced the same challenge as many parents: balancing the child’s tastes with their own. Some parents decide to fully embrace their child’s imagination and others choose to stay in keeping with the rest of the home. Alyson, with the help of our Colour Consultant, landed squarely in the middle.

‘Griffin is a child full of personality’ explains Alyson, ‘and wanted his room to reflect that. Originally, he wanted his whole room to be painted red. I shuddered at that idea! The Colour Consultant helped find the most perfect middle ground: a colour block design with Joa’s White on the top and swashbuckling Bamboozle on the bottom. Now it’s the perfect backdrop for his adventures.’

As well as delighting both Alyson and her son, this clever décor design will help make the space feel bigger and brighter. This is because the darker shade below eye line makes the lighter colour above seem even lighter by comparison. It’s a classic technique that always feels right at home.
