A Showstopping Home for a Star of Stage and Screen

A Showstopping Home for a Star of Stage and Screen

19 March 2024

Here at Farrow & Ball, we believe your home should feel truly yours. A celebration of your style. So, when sensation of stage, screen and even Strictly Come Dancing, Layton Williams wanted to transform his London home, our Brand Ambassador Patrick O’Donnell was delighted to help craft a space showing his sparkling personality. Equipped with his expert eye and our Carte Blanche collection, Patrick has created a vibrant, joyful space where colour and pattern take centre stage.

Carte Blanche , our paint and wallpaper collection created with Christopher John Rogers , was always going to be the palette for this project. Patrick explains:

“When I knew we were going to be working with Layton, the Carte Blanche collection just felt right. It brings a vibrant energy into areas of the flat we wanted to sparkle with his personality, and we also used it in a more muted way where we wanted a little more calm.”

Layton also had plenty of ideas of his own, explains Patrick:

“Layton and I had a virtual consultancy and he arrived so brilliantly prepared with thoughts that most of my job was done.”

Kitchen

Hallway Walls and Doors: Shallot No. CB3 | Kitchen Walls: Au Lait No. CB9

Walls: Au Lait No. CB9 & Stripe 6103 | Ceiling: Dot 5902

The heart of the home and, in our opinion, the highlight of this one, is the kitchen. A delightful riot of colour and pattern, the room features two wallpapers — Dot on the ceiling and Stripe through the doorway — both in Shallot and Romesco . At the same time, the pared back palette on the walls and woodwork stops the space from becoming overwhelming. This balance is something Patrick was careful to create:

“What I was able to bring to the mix was balance and proportion, such as putting wallpaper on the kitchen ceiling for added drama.”

Living Room

Bright, calm and wonderfully relaxing, Layton’s living room is an oasis in the midst of the city. With a predominantly neutral colour scheme, the pop of green from the plants and the Raw Tomatillo in our Check wallpaper create a natural feel. The space as a whole invites you to sit back, relax and escape from the hustle and bustle outside.

Bedroom

In the bedroom, our Check wallpaper in Au Lait , Roasted Macadamia and Liquorice makes a striking, sophisticated accent around the fireplace. The same shades are used on the walls, woodwork and ceiling for a harmonious feel. The wallpaper almost acts as a piece of wall art, which is exactly what Patrick was aiming for:

“We wanted to use wallpaper to add textural layers rather than create full visual statements, so the living room and bedroom have gentle nods to pattern, and the palette is primarily neutral and clean.”

Hallway

Walls, Doors and Woodwork: Shallot No. CB3

This bold hallway showcases two of our favourite techniques. First is colour drenching . Painting the walls, woodwork and ceiling in Shallot helps to blur where the walls meet the ceiling in this narrow hallway, making the space feel bigger and more open. Second is making lesser-used spaces your chance to experiment. As Patrick explains:

“You can risk being bolder as one is walking through rather than hanging out.”
