And it’s certainly no surprise that actors, performers and storytellers Ben Platt and Noah Galvin feel the same. When decorating their new (to them) home in New York, they wanted to keep the original features, while adding personal touches for their next chapter — complete with a little help from yours truly, of course.
“It’s always been my dream to have a Farrow & Ball home,” said Noah. “The palette is expertly curated and has the perfect balance of sophistication and vivid playfulness.”
“We also wanted to do everything we could to make this big, palatial space, as warm and homey as possible. We loved the colour consultancy service — it allowed us to envision the whole space and not be overwhelmed by the size of the task. I think we ended up with something inviting and cosy with some funky, colourful modern touches.”
Our Colour Consultant was more than happy to bring Ben and Noah’s decorating dreams to life:
“Noah and Ben referred to their new apartment as their ‘forever home’. They wanted it to feel intentional, stylish, glamorous, and personal — a place to implement their shared tastes and establish their future together. I’m glad they enjoyed the process and finished result as much as they loved the charm of Farrow & Ball colour names!”

Entrance Hall

“I think of entrances in a similar way to powder rooms because they’re both such great opportunities to go bold! You’re never really sitting in a vestibule but you pass through it every single day. So, why not make it cheery and bright so you smile as you enter and exit your home? Noah and Ben shared this sentiment and loved the idea of a very sunny, golden yellow.”
We asked Ben to indulge us a little and pair their colour choices with the Broadway songs they most remind him of. For
, he chose “Put on Your Sunday Clothes” from Hello Dolly:“The colour drenches our entrance, so it’s an invitation to joy every time we enter or leave the house. I think the colour is a reminder to enjoy life, which is exactly what I think that song does. In fact, it was my alarm for many years!”
Living/Dining Room

Walls & Woodwork:

“We were first drawn in by the intricacy of the moulding,” explains Noah, “I grew up in pre-war buildings on the Upper West Side and I knew I wanted to honour the things that made it special.”
Our Colour Consultant was equally enamoured. So much so, she chose a colour scheme specifically to show off the spectacular detail:
“The living room crown moulding is some of the best crown moulding I’ve seen in a while! They also have some great height to play with. We decided on painting just the living and dining room ceilings in Lulworth Blue. Not only is this a fun way to add a pop of colour without overwhelming the space, but it also draws your eye up, leaning into the height and showing off the ornate detailing of the crown moulding even more.”
For this particular blue, Ben chose “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” from The Wizard of Oz:
“This colour is on our ceilings. It brings the outdoors in, makes us feel like our space is infinite, and reminds us of all the possibilities that exist when you look up at a clear sky. This is exactly what the song does, my favourite song of all time.”
Kitchen

Walls & Ceiling:

“We knew we’d be spending most of our time on the first floor, particularly when it comes to having guests over. It’s where we eat, cook, play piano, entertain, have meetings, play records, and much more.”

is sometimes overlooked,” she explains, “because this warm, off-white has a lot more pink in it than our other brighter whites. Yet it still retains a sense of neutrality compared to more saturated shades like or .”

Ben and Noah were delighted with her suggestion — as you’d expect from an expert of her calibre:
“We love
as a neutral, warm base for more colourful details like furniture, rugs, photos, art and all the little mementos that make our home feel like our own personal tapestry. This colour is safe, warm and serene. It’s a colour that calms, which is exactly what the beautiful lullaby “Edelweiss” from The Sound of Music does.”Basement
Last but certainly not least, the freshly painted basement is an oasis from the city outside. Despite the industrial feel and exposed brickwork, our Colour Consultant still managed to delight Ben and Noah with a nod to the natural world:
“Noah and Ben’s plan for the basement was a social space. This is the only room on the same floor as the garden and they liked the idea of leaning into the foliage outdoors.
is a classic, cosy dark green that helps bring the outside in and definitely suits a basement den set up to have friends over for cocktails.”

and Broadway but this time, he was reminded of the song “Sunday” from Sunday in the Park with George:“This rich, warm colour surrounds our basement floor. It’s a reminder of the vast, lushness of nature and this Sondheim song is just as lush — both envelope you in a beautiful scene of green.”
