Savage Ground

A strong neutral stone

This yellow based stone hue was first created as a background colour for our wallpapers but was quickly added to our paint collection by popular request. Named after Dennis Savage, a block printer who was instrumental in the creation of our very first wallpaper designs, this warm and timeless neutral sits beautifully on both clapboard and panelling.

Recommended Primer & Undercoat: Mid Tones

Back in 2010, we moved our entire range to an eco-friendly water base that’s low odour, low VOC and child-safe, becoming the first in the industry to do so. Easy to clean without harmful solvents, in tins that can be recycled again and again, our paints help to reduce the environmental impact of redecorating your home.

Every one of our paint colours is available in a range of durable interior and exterior paint finishes, each rigorously tested to ensure an exceptional depth of colour and long-lasting finish. For the very best results, we always recommend using a Farrow & Ball Primer & Undercoat – see above for the correct tone for this colour.

All Farrow & Ball finishes except Limewash contain isothiazolinones, which may produce an allergic reaction. Farrow & Ball Limewash contains calcium hydroxide which can cause severe damage in contact with skin or eyes. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great finish and wonderful colour My go to paint, more expensive but absolutely worth it for the finish and colour.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fablously understated I bought this sample for my living room along with a couple of other colours, so see how they would work in my living room. I'm glad I bought the sample as although it turned out to be too pale for the main accent wall it will be great as the understated pale colour on the other walls.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect colour The Savage Ground colour on our conservatory woodwork is perfect against the brickwork of the house. It is a hardwood conservatory which was just stained for years. By painting it with the Farrow and Ball exterior eggshell it has brought it to life.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great paint, but why call it Savage Ground! This is a paint that applies and covers very well. it has a particularly pleasing matt finish - setting plaster comes to mind! It's the best F&B paint we have used, and we have used a lot. It's a very calming paint in use and finish. T here is nothing 'savage' about it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lovely warm neutral colour We have a red feature wall in our living room but wanted to freshen up the rest of the room. I ordered three tester pots from Farrow & Ball and liked Savage Ground best. The paint was easy to apply and provides good coverage. The colour has warmed up the room. Farrow & Ball we’re happy to arrange collection of the un-opened tins of paint as we ordered more than we eventually needed. I wouldn’t hesitate to use Farrow & Ball paint in future.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Brightens up my hall and landing My hall and landing was a mid brown colour in a matt finish. Grubby finger prints from my children soon made the walls look dirty and I also found that the colour overall was too dark. After testing several different colours I decided on Savage Ground. A beautiful light colour in modern emulsion finish has transformed my walls and the area looks so much lighter. The finish means that it’s wipeable so no more grubby fingerprints. Two coats needed on the walls leave a beautiful glowing finish. As a long time customer of Farrow & Ball I continue to be impressed by the ease of use of the paint and the depth of colour in the finish.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cambellwicks Interiors Dorchester I would like to express how impressed I am with Cambellwicks Interiors in Dorchester. Through the current situation they have bent over backwards to sell F&B paint, and delivered it personally ( whilst maintaining social distancing etc).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Makes for a cosy room This colour is warm and earthy, giving a cosy feel to the room, in this case a bedroom. Like being surrounded by honey coloured cottages and works nicely with ‘down pipe.’ Can look very different depending on the light.
