Savage Ground

No.213

A strong neutral stone

This yellow based stone hue was first created as a background colour for our wallpapers but was quickly added to our paint collection by popular request. Named after Dennis Savage, a block printer who was instrumental in the creation of our very first wallpaper designs, this warm and timeless neutral sits beautifully on both clapboard and panelling.

Recommended Primer & Undercoat: Mid Tones

Complementary white: New White

ECO-FRIENDLY AND CHILD-SAFE

Back in 2010, we moved our entire range to an eco-friendly water base that’s low odour, low VOC and child-safe, becoming the first in the industry to do so. Easy to clean without harmful solvents, in tins that can be recycled again and again, our paints help to reduce the environmental impact of redecorating your home.

QUALITY FINISHES

Every one of our paint colours is available in a range of durable interior and exterior paint finishes, each rigorously tested to ensure an exceptional depth of colour and long-lasting finish. For the very best results, we always recommend using a Farrow & Ball Primer & Undercoat – see above for the correct tone for this colour.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from New Favourite! I bought this colour on faith and have had my kitchen painted with it. Well, I’m so pleased. The colour changes throughout the day, but every change I love. Paired with Studio Green around my Aga it looks so distinguished. Definitely my new favourite and on to the laundry room now.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Most Perfect Neutral In Existence I am renovating my 17th century cottage and was eager to make a dramatic change from the dull white walls. I bought no fewer than 20 samples to try in my north-facing living room. As soon as I saw Savage Ground I knew it was the one. It is neutral but not dull and not invisible. It adds warmth and a wonderful coziness to the room. I think of it as a cashmere type of feeling - very light, very warm, organic and beautiful. In the evening it is a familiar and warm green. In full daylight it is a cheerful grey-yellow. It also went on completely smoothly and looks great next to my colourful furniture. Because I'd bought so many samples I went ahead and tried Dead Salmon but it was an immediate no. Charleston Grey was also a hard pass; they are beautiful colours but not right for my house. I am not sure why but my cottage tends to like light colours. We're doing the entry room and the downstairs cloakrooms in various greens, but the living room, stairway, landing and hallway will all be Savage Ground. It truly is the most beautiful colour I've come across.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fablously understated I bought this sample for my living room along with a couple of other colours, so see how they would work in my living room. I'm glad I bought the sample as although it turned out to be too pale for the main accent wall it will be great as the understated pale colour on the other walls.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect colour The Savage Ground colour on our conservatory woodwork is perfect against the brickwork of the house. It is a hardwood conservatory which was just stained for years. By painting it with the Farrow and Ball exterior eggshell it has brought it to life.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great paint, but why call it Savage Ground! This is a paint that applies and covers very well. it has a particularly pleasing matt finish - setting plaster comes to mind! It's the best F&B paint we have used, and we have used a lot. It's a very calming paint in use and finish. T here is nothing 'savage' about it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lovely warm neutral colour We have a red feature wall in our living room but wanted to freshen up the rest of the room. I ordered three tester pots from Farrow & Ball and liked Savage Ground best. The paint was easy to apply and provides good coverage. The colour has warmed up the room. Farrow & Ball we’re happy to arrange collection of the un-opened tins of paint as we ordered more than we eventually needed. I wouldn’t hesitate to use Farrow & Ball paint in future.
