A romantic grey pink

This grey pink has a romantic feel inspired by the chiffon gowns in which ladies traditionally brushed their hair. Created by giving the softest of pinks a big dose of grey, Peignoir has a unique depth which brings walls to life. It works perfectly in homes both old and new with any of our Contemporary Neutrals, or with Brassica and Pelt.

The finest ingredients

The finest ingredients

We’re dedicated to perfecting the art of paint. At our home in Dorset, we combine the finest ingredients, 75 years of experience and technical precision to help you create beautiful spaces that stay beautiful. Even in our colour rich paints, less than 8% of the tin is the colour. The other 92% is what creates the quality, depth and extraordinary response to light that transforms your home.

Paint is like coffee. The colour is the froth on the top, but it’s the quality of the rest of the cup that makes it taste good.
– Richard Ball, Farrow & Ball Co-founder

We use twelve exclusive pigments, all specifically selected for their colour intensity. We take colour seriously, so naturally, we only accept the very best. By using these same pigments to make every colour in our palette, all our shades combine effortlessly, making it easy for you to put together a cohesive colour scheme.

Deeper, richer colours

Deeper, richer colours

Packed with pigment for an extraordinary response to every kind of light.

We add generous helpings of rich pigment to create our signature look – deep colours with complex undertones. The same space that feels bright and airy in morning sun, can feel cosy and intimate by evening. Our teams design each shade under every kind of light, so it will be perfectly balanced in every setting.

Extraordinary response to light

Extraordinary response to light

We spend months carefully crafting and testing each of our paint colours to make sure they share our signature extraordinary response to light. This beautiful reaction to changing light, like bringing out different undertones or shifting intensity, is what makes our paint so special.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Peignoir Peignoir really is the most gorgeous color! Perfect for bedroom woodwork.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Pegnoir My hallway with a dado has expensive wallpaper under the dado so wanted to retain it and choose a complimentary shade Pegnoir looks lovely and blends perfectly - I chose the modern emulsion as it is a high traffic area and really like the slight reflection it gives

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best paint Used lots of paints over the years but this paint has to be the best.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great teamed with denimes Love this - we have dark wood floor, denimes skirting, dark old radiators and it works brilliantly in our south-east facing dining room. Such a fantastic colour.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful colour This colour is amazing and feels so romantic I honestly feel like I am walking in a cloud when I walk in my lounge, quite dramatic I know but so true! highly recommend!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Peignoir - a great choice! I was looking for something as calm and restful for a bedroom as a grey but more interesting, and I found it in Peignoir. But I so nearly didn’t! When I first looked at a sample by the window in a Farrow and Ball shop, the artificial lighting above the window made it look a very unappealing sludgy grey. Fortunately, I didn’t give up at that point and bought a sample pot. The next moment of doubt was when I saw my sample against a newly plastered wall; the colour of the fresh plaster didn’t do Peignoir any favours, and I was worried that it looked dead and cold. My builders then misted the wall in white, so I could get a better sense of the colour and it was transformed! I now have a beautifully calm, restful bedroom with the warm, interesting Peignoir in Estate Emulsion on the walls. I’m including photos so you can see how different it looks as the morning light catches it in different ways in different parts of the room. I am really happy with my choice and can recommend this colour! I treated the wardrobe to a couple of coats of Great White Estate Eggshell which I think goes very well with the Peignoir walls.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stunning Colour Not quite pink, not quite grey, not quite lilac! This colour changes with the light. It’s a remarkable colour that is elegant, relaxing. It doesn’t jar and just goes with anything.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bedroom Perfection My bedroom hadn’t been decorated in aeons and it was time for a complete change. In the end I decided on Peignoir combined with Wevet. My bedroom is now a beautiful, contemporary space. I love it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Impressed with new dead flat Looks super Matt and cleans as they say. Price of FB paint is getting bit crazy. Homebase often has offers, yet not even a loyalty scheme when buying direct, bit disappointing for loyal customers.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from lovely quality used on walls and ceiling in a good size north east facing bedroom that has good light. Kept feature wallpaper as is (Laura Ashley Willow ) . Colour, whilst lovely and does go with wallpaper, much more lilac than expected - quite unexpected depth of colour. I'll live with it as bedroom doesn't get a lot of use but if you are thinking of using this colour do what I didn't and try a test pot to make sure you want that much colour. It works well with Wevet. Second time I've used Dead Flat and very happy with the finish - now my go-to finish.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Peignoir dead flat I pained my dining/kitchen with Peignoir. It’s a dark space and I wanted a colour that was calm and could lift and light up the room – Peignoir did this brilliantly and I am 95% happy, my only grumble is in some lights I see violet tones which I’m not a fan of, but this might be the previous blue showing through slightly? Maybe I need another coat. Very happy customer though.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Colour amazing, jury out on the Dead Flat finish I’ve been using F&B paints for 20 years. I’ve loved “Peignoir” since its launch, but it never worked in the particular light conditions in each room I sampled it in. Until now. A new home, a south-east facing bedroom and an alcove where I was placing my bed. I have taken the paint around the alcove walls and up and over the ceiling just above the alcove area. The rest of the walls in the room are pale pink (not F&B - sorry!). I have used the Peignoir in the same Dead Flat Matt finish on the woodwork too. The Peignoir is stunning. The direction of the light and the pale pink walls combine to bring out its best features: muted, soft, lavender-grey, but never sugary or sickly. In an east-facing room, I found the sample looked dirty after the sun moved away from the windows. In a north-facing room, its grey tones were too pronounced and too dark. In this room: perfect. Colour: five stars. Now to the new “Dead Flat” finish. It’s the first time I’ve selected this since its launch. For me, “dead” is the operative word. It is, as always, very personal: “one size fits one”. I found it to have depth on the walls (good) but the absence of any sheen has meant that, as the direction of the sunlight moves across the room, there are times when “dead” really is the only way to describe it. Since it’s my bedroom and it looks spectacular in the morning sun and under electric lighting in the evenings, that’s fine (might be an issue in the summer, though?). The real issue with it is its usage on woodwork. My decorator is well-versed in F&B paints and speaks highly of them. It was his first time using the Dead Flat finish at all, so he was quite intrigued to see how it turned out. The massive potential advantage of a “walls & woodwork” Matt finish is a big selling point, and was the reason I selected it, instead of my usual Estate emulsion and eggshell. The woodwork had F&B’s recommended “mid-tones” undercoat applied, but the coverage of the Dead Flat finish was poor (four coats!!) and the dead quality has something of a naff primer effect, wherever I look at it. I will definitely use Peignoir again in a south-facing room but I will never use the Dead Flat finish again. For walls, as noted above, it’s a personal preference. For the woodwork, it’s a definite sense of it just not being good enough a finish. I suspect that it won’t be especially durable even in a child-free, pet-free room such as mine. Decorator has said that he’ll do his damnedest to stop anyone else using it, and will price extra if they select it against his advice, because of the poor performance on the woodwork and the need to do extra coats. He said that he’s never had to do anything other than two coats on walls and woodwork with F&B paints, and he doesn’t even always use their undercoats. This was all “by the book” and still was neither a good process nor a good outcome. Ho hum. Onto the rest of the house. Not with Dead Flat anything, though!
