Hague Blue

A deep dark blue

This strong blue takes its name from the fantastically coloured woodwork much used by the Dutch, and still works wonderfully to ground skirtings or as an accent colour on the walls when teamed with Borrowed Light. The green undertones of this timeless, deep and dramatic blue means it sits as happily outside as it does in small dark rooms.

Recommended Primer & Undercoat: Dark Tones

Complementary white: Old White

Back in 2010, we moved our entire range to an eco-friendly water base that’s low odour, low VOC and child-safe, becoming the first in the industry to do so. Easy to clean without harmful solvents, in tins that can be recycled again and again, our paints help to reduce the environmental impact of redecorating your home.

Every one of our paint colours is available in a range of durable interior and exterior paint finishes, each rigorously tested to ensure an exceptional depth of colour and long-lasting finish. For the very best results, we always recommend using a Farrow & Ball Primer & Undercoat – see above for the correct tone for this colour.

All Farrow & Ball finishes except Limewash contain isothiazolinones, which may produce an allergic reaction. Farrow & Ball Limewash contains calcium hydroxide which can cause severe damage in contact with skin or eyes. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful color The color and finish are wonderful. We used it for a dining room accent wall and are very pleased with the result. It took a single gallon of paint to cover with two coats.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exquisite depth I have decided to paint our lounge this colour after testing four f&b blues. This one is tealy, bluey, grey and greeney all at once, at different times of day and at night. It's a bit more avant garde than the darker blues that we have seen in lots of pub walls over the last few years. I can't wait to have it in my house and dream of the lovely north European travel memories that it brings to my mind.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfection in a tin. We chose this colour to paint our front door. What a transformation from a varnished hardwood to a grown up and elegant entrance to the house! The paint is so easy to use, prepare well, undercoat and apply two top coats for a beautiful, flawless finish. It’s the second top coat that really does the business, giving a rich depth of colour and a very professional appearance. Delighted!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An old friend of a colour I bought this to paint some furniture. The cover is great. I first used this colour more than 20 years ago and it's still a wonderful colour. Delighted to see it had not been retired. Washing the the brushes the diluted colour is beautiful, like the colour of woad dyed wool. I used the diluted colour on a small wooden box. Gorgeous.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent - kitchen cupboards revived Extremely pleased with the result of my kitchen cupboards. We could afford to re-do our kitchen as we were having other work done in the house, so we decided to do a cheap refresh. We have a really solid wood kitchen which is amazing but dated now. The blue Hague paint really bought it back to life. Extremely pleased and worth the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pure excellence! This is the fifth colour purchase I have made from farrow and ball and I couldn’t be more pleased yet again. Goes on like a dream and the colour is second to none. Hague blue is the ultimate blue for me. Looks incredible on our stairs. Would also like to say that on a separate visit to the oxford store we bought Palma grey and Nancy’s blushes and the service we had there from James was absolutely fantastic! So much so that I would say it is up there with one of the best customer experiences we’ve ever had. James was so knowledgable about the product, so helpful and so fantastic in his approach! I am sure you already know but what a gem you have there!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No comparison to other paints I bought Hague Blue in Modern Eggshell last month to repaint a bathroom wash stand and I am delighted with the results. The finish and consistency of the paint is perfect. I have also ordered a number of paint samples in the last few months and have been really pleased with the delivery times and process.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fabulous paint I have used this paint in two rooms in my house, a bureau in the living room and most recently some panelling in the bathroom. It is such a beautiful colour and it works well with many other colours. The coverage is very good and never needs more than two coats.
