Hague Blue

A deep dark blue

This strong blue takes its name from the fantastically coloured woodwork much used by the Dutch, and still works wonderfully to ground skirtings or as an accent colour on the walls when teamed with Borrowed Light. The green undertones of this timeless, deep and dramatic blue means it sits as happily outside as it does in small dark rooms.

Recommended Primer & Undercoat: Dark Tones

Complementary white: Old White

Back in 2010, we moved our entire range to an eco-friendly water base that’s low odour, low VOC and child-safe, becoming the first in the industry to do so. Easy to clean without harmful solvents, in tins that can be recycled again and again, our paints help to reduce the environmental impact of redecorating your home.

Every one of our paint colours is available in a range of durable interior and exterior paint finishes, each rigorously tested to ensure an exceptional depth of colour and long-lasting finish. For the very best results, we always recommend using a Farrow & Ball Primer & Undercoat – see above for the correct tone for this colour.

All Farrow & Ball finishes except Limewash contain isothiazolinones, which may produce an allergic reaction. Farrow & Ball Limewash contains calcium hydroxide which can cause severe damage in contact with skin or eyes. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Paint I bought this paint for a recent refurb of my study. It was the first time I used F&B paint, and certainly not the last (in fact I am doing my hallway next, paint is on order already). Coverage is excellent, two coats were needed to cover both a brilliant white and a black wall. The final colour has a beautiful depth and plays with different kinds of light in engaging ways. Couldn't be happier!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exceptional Quality I was tempted to take the easy route and have a big box store try to color match. I’m so glad I didn’t. The quality of this paint is amazing. Especially for a high gloss finish. Will definitely source f&b for future paint needs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful colour and finish Used to paint a bespoke built bench and coat hook, really striking colour with great coverage (making it excellent value for money). Complimented by F&B Strong White emulsion on the walls which is one of my favourite combinations. I would recommend this product :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic depth of colour and easy to apply We bought this paint to paint our old wooden kitchen cupboards. After a investing in a great deal of preparation and using the dark undercoat, 2 coats of this paint have given us an excellent and very professional finish despite being DIYers. Cannot comment on how durable it is but certainly happy so far.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful color The color and finish are wonderful. We used it for a dining room accent wall and are very pleased with the result. It took a single gallon of paint to cover with two coats.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exquisite depth I have decided to paint our lounge this colour after testing four f&b blues. This one is tealy, bluey, grey and greeney all at once, at different times of day and at night. It's a bit more avant garde than the darker blues that we have seen in lots of pub walls over the last few years. I can't wait to have it in my house and dream of the lovely north European travel memories that it brings to my mind.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfection in a tin. We chose this colour to paint our front door. What a transformation from a varnished hardwood to a grown up and elegant entrance to the house! The paint is so easy to use, prepare well, undercoat and apply two top coats for a beautiful, flawless finish. It’s the second top coat that really does the business, giving a rich depth of colour and a very professional appearance. Delighted!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An old friend of a colour I bought this to paint some furniture. The cover is great. I first used this colour more than 20 years ago and it's still a wonderful colour. Delighted to see it had not been retired. Washing the the brushes the diluted colour is beautiful, like the colour of woad dyed wool. I used the diluted colour on a small wooden box. Gorgeous.
