A down to earth and grounding blue

This quietly elegant blue feels wonderfully down to earth, so could be used on anything from a kitchen island to an airy drawing room. The exact shade is rooted in a regency palette but is inspired by the cloth of everyday workwear made in the French city Nîmes. Like denim, its blue hue is ultimately fashionable and yet always feels grounded.

The finest ingredients

The finest ingredients

We’re dedicated to perfecting the art of paint. At our home in Dorset, we combine the finest ingredients, 75 years of experience and technical precision to help you create beautiful spaces that stay beautiful. Even in our colour rich paints, less than 8% of the tin is the colour. The other 92% is what creates the quality, depth and extraordinary response to light that transforms your home.

Paint is like coffee. The colour is the froth on the top, but it’s the quality of the rest of the cup that makes it taste good.
– Richard Ball, Farrow & Ball Co-founder

We use twelve exclusive pigments, all specifically selected for their colour intensity. We take colour seriously, so naturally, we only accept the very best. By using these same pigments to make every colour in our palette, all our shades combine effortlessly, making it easy for you to put together a cohesive colour scheme.

Deeper, richer colours

Deeper, richer colours

Packed with pigment for an extraordinary response to every kind of light.

We add generous helpings of rich pigment to create our signature look – deep colours with complex undertones. The same space that feels bright and airy in morning sun, can feel cosy and intimate by evening. Our teams design each shade under every kind of light, so it will be perfectly balanced in every setting.

Extraordinary response to light

Extraordinary response to light

We spend months carefully crafting and testing each of our paint colours to make sure they share our signature extraordinary response to light. This beautiful reaction to changing light, like bringing out different undertones or shifting intensity, is what makes our paint so special.

Dark Tones

When it comes to using dark colours, the deeper the better. So, for an irresistibly inviting finished look, pair darker shades with our Dark Tones Primer & Undercoat. Based on the colour of Down Pipe, combining this primer with your topcoat creates an unrivalled richness and makes quite the statement.

Made with the same natural ingredients and pigments as our topcoats, our Primer & Undercoat is the crucial foundation for creating a rich, even and longer lasting finish.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful color for my Library I love the rich color and the coverage is excellent!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bedroom makeover Used DeNimes for the first time and such a warm deep blue. The paint as always is a great quality and a joy to use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from De Nimes downstairs loo Really pleased with the result. It’s the perfect blue -grey hue that I had hoped for. I think it adds a touch of drama and sophistication to my downstairs loo! My husband managed to paint it all in one day and it only needed 1 coat using modern emulsion. No nasty odour, in fact he thought the paint smelt nice.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sophisticated and bold for our downstairs loo! I used De Nimes Dead Flat to colour drench our cloakroom and in true F&B style, the colour changes and evolves throughout the day as it responds to the natural light. It’s fabulous and the result is just beautiful!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exceptionally beautiful I was a bit concerned about the greenish tint, more of a teal hue, noticed after applying the sample. After much deliberation, I decided to paint the whole entrance wall. I am so delighted ! The teal hue disappeared and the result was an exceptional, time-less grey blue. It contrast beautifully with my walnut main door.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lovely deep blue/gray/green color I wanted some contrast with the light beige walls and ceilings in my home, so chose this as the color for my small kitchen and two other accent walls. I have found that so many colors look great against this, as do light colored woods and anything metallic.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lovely Depth to the Colour Used in our kitchen upgrade for the kitchen cabinets, great coverage with just 2 coats and looks fabulous.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My little porch De Nimes…I’m not the only one who loves this colour…

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far, so beautiful I used De Nîmes modern emulsion in my large brightly lit bathroom, having struggled to find something to pair with the existing peppermint tiles. De Nîmes looks great; sophisticated and welcoming and makes a great backdrop for the white bathroom suite. I’m hoping it wears well when the steam hits!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Gorgeous colour! Gorgeous colour for upcycled chest of drawers. Paint went on v easily.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful colour! I used Drab on all woodwork, Lime White on the ceiling and De Nïmes on all walls (except one that has a linen wallpaper). A beautiful combination that gives my bedroom such a special, rich, historic feeling! Two coats of De Nïmes estate emulsion were more than enough. It covers really well and even and is easy to clean.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful cozy color I recently changed my (north light) primary bedroom from white to De Nimes and I couldn't be happier. Beautiful color with low odor.
Date published: 2023-02-21
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful coverage and color We bought samples of De Nimes and Stiffkey blue for our nursery. In our room, which is low on natural night, De Nimes was quite grey with a blue/green hint. For my purposes, I settled on Stiffkey but De Nimes had a lot of votes. (For more details, Stiffkey reads as a true navy with hints of matte grey/black).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful rich colour Love this colour. It’s a really deep blue green that goes beautifully with other rich colours. I tried lots of other testers but I only ever need one F&B tester and it was perfect for what I was looking for. I’ve used it in my ensuite and had enough left to do my other bathroom with different styling.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lovely cozy color with incredible pigmentation I used this in a bedroom and it was just perfect. It’s a really interesting color that is both soft and bold. It’s reasonably deep while still clearly reading as blue in lower light situations. It can function as a kind of neutral the way jeans do for an outfit. The pigmentation is rich and dynamic and almost velvety in quality. Farrow and Ball paint is excellent and De Nimes was instantly a favorite.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Classy colour I love this colour and have just had my hallway painted in it. I thought it may be too dark at first but it’s turned out really well and lots of people have commented upon it. Depending on the time of day it can be blue tones or grey. Love Fartow and Ball paint. This is the first time I’ve bought modern emulsion but the coverage doesn’t have too much of a sheen to it and is great at wiping off fingerprints in a high traffic area as stairs and hallway.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice calm colour Used Denimes modern emulsion on walls and Pavilion Grey estate eggshell on matchboarding in downstairs loo and pleased with the result. I water it down a bit and do an extra coat. Goes on a bit better in my view.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Beautiful color but... I used this in an office and love the color - beautiful tone, depth and finish but I definitely had to be more careful with the painting technique. I finished the room with 2 coats ( 2 gallons) but then I noticed color variations from the application on one wall. I tried to touch up areas and that didn't seem to help. Im not sure at this point if I need another full coat on the wall or if I should just let it go. I probably won't notice as much when art work etc. is placed but a little frustrating after so much time spent with the darker color. I am almost out of paint and not really wanting to spend on another gallon.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Difficult colour Painted a large main bedroom feature wall with it last year, found it extremely difficult to use. (and I've use F&B colours in every room in the house) The colour showed up any imperfections very clearly even though i stirred it longer than any other colour I've ever used. Although the emulsion is a lovely colour, i had to repaint in an alternate F&B colour before i was satisfied with the outcome.
