Book Room Red

No.50

An aged terracotta

Book Room Red, the muddiest of our reds, is particularly suited to smaller spaces where the stronger Eating Room Red can be a little overwhelming. It takes its name from the reading rooms or small libraries often found in English stately homes, and creates an unapologetically aged feel.

Recommended Primer & Undercoat: Red & Warm Tones

Complementary white: Dimity

Book Room Red is part of our archive collection so sample pots are not available, and orders cannot be returned.

ECO-FRIENDLY AND CHILD-SAFE

Back in 2010, we moved our entire range to an eco-friendly water base that’s low odour, low VOC and child-safe, becoming the first in the industry to do so. Easy to clean without harmful solvents, in tins that can be recycled again and again, our paints help to reduce the environmental impact of redecorating your home.

QUALITY FINISHES

Every one of our 132 paint colours is available in a range of durable interior and exterior paint finishes, each rigorously tested to ensure an exceptional depth of colour and long-lasting finish. For the very best results, we always recommend using a Farrow & Ball Primer & Undercoat – see above for the correct tone for this colour.

SAFETY INFORMATION

All Farrow & Ball finishes except Limewash contain isothiazolinones, which may produce an allergic reaction. Farrow & Ball Limewash contains calcium hydroxide which can cause severe damage in contact with skin or eyes. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rich beyond belief Being a regular F & B user by trade, it shouldn't have come as any surprise how good this paint was. 2 coats by brush created a deep, glowing surface. F&B seem to have the knack of getting the colour just right as well as having an extra quality that is hard to define, combining tradition, suitability , 'just rightness' ... A true fan of F & B paints.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Orange-red Great colour red, but not conventional pillar box. The tint veers towards Orange. Superb.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An Old Friend I have used Book Room Red many times, in various locations - this time actually for two Book Rooms! It is a colour that never disappoints, with its deep earth tones. It also matures graciously, capturing the particular light of wherever you have chosen to use it. The quality of Farrow & Ball paints is not to be questioned, as everyone who has ever used them agrees. One word of criticism for the colour range, though. You could do with some work on your paler greys - much too brown/yellow based. More blue needed!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful paint to apply. This is lovely paint as I knew it would be having used F and B before. However the colour is too deep for our hall stairs and landing so I shall be ordering a different shade instead in the full size pot.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A glorious warm, rich, colour, that sets off antique furniture perfectly I was in two minds for quite a while before finally going for Bookroom Red for my cottage dining room. I'd seen somthing similar in a book about country cottages and anything oak or mahogany looked fabulous against this colour. I tried several sample pots of lighter, more teracota shades of paint from several different companies, before trying Bookroom Red. It's a much darker colour than I would normally go for and a close friend who visited whilst I was painting suggested that I don't paint all the walls the same colour as it would make the room too dark. I ignored his advice however, and I'm glad I did; my dining room looks fabulous and my pine dresser, mahogany server, mahogany chairs and dining table really stand out. It has a lovely rich, warm, hue, that was so cosy over Christmas, and it's not too dark. My only caveate with this paint is that it required a good 4 coats and more in some places and needs to be thoroughly stirred before each application; much more so than any other F&B paint I've used, so not quite as easy to use. Once I didn't stir it well enough and that coat dried a slightly different shade, requiring another couple of coats to rectify.
