Product Focus: Farrow & Ball Modern Eggshell
Did you know that Farrow & Ball Modern Eggshell used to be called Floor Paint? It was originally designed to withstand the kind of traffic you would expect a domestic floor to cope with, but as the toughest product in our range – perfect for kitchen cabinets, skirting boards, stairs, floors and more – we thought it deserved a name that better conveyed its exceptional versatility.
Modern Eggshell’s extremely tough and durable nature is down to the clever blend of polyurethane and acrylic binders that are used in its formulation. This means that, when used together with the appropriate Farrow & Ball Primer & Undercoat for the work, you will achieve a long-lasting finish, fewer service cycles, and savings for your customer in the long run!
A Few Pointers When Working With Modern Eggshell
Brush and Roller Application:
Modern Eggshell, as with all Farrow & Ball paints, is waterborne. Unlike solvent-borne paints, water-borne paint is more resistant to sagging, which means you will achieve the best finish by painting a thicker coat. Take care not to overwork or stretch the paint too thinly, as you might with a traditional solvent-borne paint.
This paint finish can also be applied using a medium pile woven polyester roller. This will provide a good finish with minimal stippling and is a quick method of application. However, where an optimum finish is required, we would recommend brush application using a good quality fine-tipped synthetic bristled brush, or an extremely fine finish by spray application.
Airless Spraying:
Good results can be achieved by the setup of 18 thou (457µm) 65° angle tip using a pressure of 2400–2700 psi (165–186 bar).
HVLP Spraying:
Depending on the apparatus used, the paint may need to be diluted with water by up to 30%. Experiment with your sprayer’s air control valve, material flow adjustment, fan size and spray pattern settings on a piece of cardboard or an inconspicuous area until a satisfactory finish is achieved. Apply several thin coats, allowing each coat to dry fully before applying the next one.
