Who said offices had to be beige, boring and badly decorated? Certainly not us. And certainly not these excellent designers. To help inspire you with your own home office, we sat down with three American design firms to see how they’ve made their workspaces work for them.

W Design Collective

Walls, Trim and Ceiling: Cardamom No. CB5 . All photography by @lauren.lee.photo

Based in Salt Lake City, Utah, W Design Collective cares about one thing above all else: character. They believe in empowering people to find and share their style. So, it’s no surprise that they wanted their office to be encouraging, reassuring and put people at ease while they explore.

“We wanted earthy, organic colours,” the team explain, “to serve as a neutral palette cleanser for creativity, as we often look to tones found in nature for inspiration.”

“We didn’t want anything too stark or sterile, so Roasted Macadamia was perfect for our actual workspace. I also absolutely love how you're enveloped in the warm dark green Cardamom right when you enter the office.”

Zoe Feldman Design

Walls: Tented Stripe 1388 | Trim: School House White No.291 | All photography by Stacy Zarin Goldberg

Balancing sophistication, playfulness and practicality, Zoe Feldman Design centre their creations around who lives there and how they live. Far from cold and clinical, these spaces are bursting with humanity and humour. Naturally, their office space is no different.

Left Walls: Ointment Pink No.21 | Right Walls: Hopper Head No.305

“When selecting paints and wallpapers, we were mindful of how the different spaces would function. Client-facing spaces were opportunities for more playful moments. The entry hall is a jewel box in Hopper Head , Book Room Red adds a burst of colour to the lobby, and the client meeting room is warm and cosy in Ointment Pink . ”

“Our actual working spaces are coated in All White to avoid competing with the mood boards. It provides a blank canvas. In Zoe’s office, which is more of a gathering space, we used Tented Stripe wallpaper as it straddles the line between modern and classic, which we love to showcase in our work.”

Julie Hillman Design

Walls & Ceiling: Charleston Gray No.243 | Walls & Ceiling (Adjoining Room): Wimborne White No.239

Based in New York, Julie Hillman believes that there should be harmony in the home, with each space speaking to one another. Her designs are distinctive yet cohesive, timeless yet unique. You can clearly see this approach in her office too.

“Paint creates the mood of a room and holds together a space. In our Reception, Charleston Gray is a warm surprise that welcomes people into our office. It's very soothing, cosy and a great color for a space without windows.”
