Before and After: A Vintage-Inspired Kids’ Room Makeover

Written on 3rd June 2021

When it came to redecorating her daughter Maddie’s room, Brittany Goodman (The Goodman House) had three criteria: “fun, colourful, and a room she can grow with”. Seeing the finished results for ourselves, we’d call it a mission accomplished.

Teaming soft pink Setting Plaster with the ditsy floral print of our Uppark wallpaper, Brittany has created a new look for Maddie that’s at once sweetly vintage-inspired and completely timeless.

Against this classic background, pops of mustard, navy and pink add personal flourishes and touches of fun that can be switched in and out as the room’s little inhabitant grows – all in all, it’s a masterclass in creating looks with longevity.

“The MVPs of this room are the Farrow & Ball paint and wallpaper,” says Brittany. “The rich colour and timeless pattern were the starting point for the design in here and they truly bring this room to life.”

But there’s more to our Modern Emulsion paint finish, which Brittany chose for Maddie’s makeover, than meets the eye. Behind the sophisticated matte surface lies some serious science, with ultra-tough ingredients that give the paint its durable, washable, scuff-proof finish – perfect for kids’ rooms.

On the flip side of all that toughness is an eco-friendly and child-safe formula, making this finish the best of both worlds. Our Modern range, including Modern Emulsion and its wood- and metal-friendly partner Modern Eggshell, has been independently tested and approved to meet Toy Safety Standards*, and its low-VOC water based formulas have won it an A+ rating for indoor air quality.

Pairing it with our handcrafted wallpaper, which is finished with a fine layer of protective glaze to keep it looking pristine, has resulted in what we’re sure you’ll agree is the ultimate combination for kids’ rooms: walls and furniture that are beautiful to look at and tough enough to handle what family life can throw at them.

*Safety of Toys Part 3: Migration of certain elements (EN 71 3:2013+A3:2018) and the Health Canada Cribs, Cradles and Bassinets Regulations.
