Sudbury Yellow

No.51

A traditional mid yellow

This soft mid yellow takes its name from the staircase at Sudbury Hall, where renowned colourist John Fowler used this shade to such great effect. Sudbury Yellow is particularly responsive to changes in light, reading as cleaner and brighter in well lit rooms or softening in dimly lit spaces alongside a stronger contrast like New White.

Recommended Primer & Undercoat: Mid Tones

Complementary white: New White

Sudbury Yellow is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 84.

ECO-FRIENDLY AND CHILD-SAFE

Back in 2010, we moved our entire range to an eco-friendly water base that’s low odour, low VOC and child-safe, becoming the first in the industry to do so. Easy to clean without harmful solvents, in tins that can be recycled again and again, our paints help to reduce the environmental impact of redecorating your home.

QUALITY FINISHES

Our paint colours are available in a range of durable interior and exterior paint finishes, each rigorously tested to ensure an exceptional depth of colour and long-lasting finish. For the very best results, we always recommend using a Farrow & Ball Primer & Undercoat – see above for the correct tone for this colour.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing colour - adore the results My kitchen is a dark north facing room and needs artificial lights at all times. I tested Sudbury, Baboushka and India Yellow. Sudbury won the vote and my first application of Farrow and Ball. I must admit when I started painting I really wanted to like it, but it was a dull green colour and I was secretly devastated. Having read the reviews I decided something must be wrong and concluded it was my lightbulbs. I did some research and found out that it is possible to purchase a bulb with a high CRI rating which gives an accurate colour. I also chose a warm white. What a success, it was like turning the sun on! Everyone loves the result...I’m expecting more testers to be delivered for my bedrooms and very excited!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Glad I took the plunge ! I normally use three variations of Farrow and Ball 'White' shades in each room in my house, but during lockdown decided to be bold! I used Sudbury yellow on the walls, with New White on the ceiling and wood work with House White above the picture rail in my 1930s house. The colours as suggested by F&B look great together and enhance my vintage wooden furniture, and wood floors. My soft furnishings are vintage leather with shades of red /burgundy cushions and throws - I mention this because the yellow really helps to create the vintage atmosphere I like so much. Definitely a change for me, but it is not too dark, and seems to change at various times of the day with different lighting.
