A laid-back blue
A lighter, less grey version of popular De Nimes, Selvedge is named after the highly prized denim woven on a shuttle loom to produce closed edges. It’s particularly good in low-light spaces, creating a familiar and friendly atmosphere, making it suited to bedrooms or rooms you spend time in, in the evening. It pairs beautifully with accents of darker colours like Inchyra Blue or Hopper Head.
We’re dedicated to perfecting the art of paint. At our home in Dorset, we combine the finest ingredients, 75 years of experience and technical precision to help you create beautiful spaces that stay beautiful. Even in our colour rich paints, less than 8% of the tin is the colour. The other 92% is what creates the quality, depth and extraordinary response to light that transforms your home.
Paint is like coffee. The colour is the froth on the top, but it’s the quality of the rest of the cup that makes it taste good. – Richard Ball, Farrow & Ball Co-founder
We use twelve exclusive pigments, all specifically selected for their colour intensity. We take colour seriously, so naturally, we only accept the very best. By using these same pigments to make every colour in our palette, all our shades combine effortlessly, making it easy for you to put together a cohesive colour scheme.
Deeper, richer colours
Deeper, richer colours
Packed with pigment for an extraordinary response to every kind of light.
We add generous helpings of rich pigment to create our signature look – deep colours with complex undertones. The same space that feels bright and airy in morning sun, can feel cosy and intimate by evening. Our teams design each shade under every kind of light, so it will be perfectly balanced in every setting.
Extraordinary response to light
Extraordinary response to light
We spend months carefully crafting and testing each of our paint colours to make sure they share our signature extraordinary response to light. This beautiful reaction to changing light, like bringing out different undertones or shifting intensity, is what makes our paint so special.

Beautiful gray blueI have both Selvedge and DeNimes. Both are beautiful colors. I found that Selvedge is more gray than DeNimes, not less gray as the description says. De Nimes has more green and is a bit darker, while Selvedge is really a grayish blue. Both are lovely, rich colors; especially stunning when on well-lit walls.

Lovely soft misty blueOur kitchen has been deNimes for the last few years: I loved it but it was always a bit darker than I had expected. Selvedge is perfect: lighter, bluer (less grey) with an almost slight green tone to it in darker light yet a very soft blue look in bright daylight. It's simply perfect, and - best of all- only needed one coat as the colour was similar to the previous paint!

Better than expectedI really liked this product, it’s the first time I’ve used farrow and ball and it did not disappoint.
I used and hlvp spray gun to coat up some of the furniture and then a specialist roller on other components. It lays on and dries really evenly. And it hardens further over time.

A wonderful mid blue and perfect in Dead FlatSo happy we chose to re paint our drawing room in Selvedge. We wanted something with character that held its own in the evening but wasn’t too dark by day. This is perfect and the dead flat finish is remarkable.

Beautiful bedroom blueSelvedge was the perfect colour to tie in with the wallpaper and looks beautiful with accents of navy and mustard…stiffkey blue was used in the small adjoining study area with Wimborne white on the woodwork. A very happy customer 😁

Lovely shade of blue traditional and yet modernI have redecorated a spare room in Selvedge. I was worried about painting all the walls in this colour but it looks great. Decadent and stylish without being too dark

Beautiful colourThis was my first time using F&B and I couldn’t be happier. I wanted a rich colour for our office that would make the whole room feel more sophisticated and elegant. I initially thought I might go with De Nimes but the room has several dark corners so I went with Selvedge instead - best decision ever!

Sultry relaxed blue for bathroomI bought Selvedge to paint a small en suite and it was so luscious on the walls we ended up repainting our dark, north facing bathroom too. A beautiful grey blue

Hoping you can update samplesI had to get the pot of paint because a paper sample of this color was not available, nor is it included in my fandeck. It was also not available on Samplize.
