A dark and smoky green

A smoky green blue, this colour was popular in interiors during the late 19th century. It has an irresistibly inviting deepness and weathered familiarity when used in exterior situations, while evoking calm and serenity when used inside.

The finest ingredients

The finest ingredients

We’re dedicated to perfecting the art of paint. At our home in Dorset, we combine the finest ingredients, 75 years of experience and technical precision to help you create beautiful spaces that stay beautiful. Even in our colour rich paints, less than 8% of the tin is the colour. The other 92% is what creates the quality, depth and extraordinary response to light that transforms your home.

Paint is like coffee. The colour is the froth on the top, but it’s the quality of the rest of the cup that makes it taste good.
– Richard Ball, Farrow & Ball Co-founder

We use twelve exclusive pigments, all specifically selected for their colour intensity. We take colour seriously, so naturally, we only accept the very best. By using these same pigments to make every colour in our palette, all our shades combine effortlessly, making it easy for you to put together a cohesive colour scheme.

Deeper, richer colours

Deeper, richer colours

Packed with pigment for an extraordinary response to every kind of light.

We add generous helpings of rich pigment to create our signature look – deep colours with complex undertones. The same space that feels bright and airy in morning sun, can feel cosy and intimate by evening. Our teams design each shade under every kind of light, so it will be perfectly balanced in every setting.

Extraordinary response to light

Extraordinary response to light

We spend months carefully crafting and testing each of our paint colours to make sure they share our signature extraordinary response to light. This beautiful reaction to changing light, like bringing out different undertones or shifting intensity, is what makes our paint so special.

Interior and exterior finishes

From walls, floors and furniture to radiators, skirtings and sheds, our range of paint finishes can help you transform almost any surface in your home (and outside it, too).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Living room makeover We’ve downsized to a new build & were unsure if f&b paint might be lost in our modern living room. We chose the modern emulsion finish in Green Smoke, we loved this colour but were slightly anxious it might be too bold a move, however from the onset we were smitten, the paint went on like a dream & the opulent shade of green has elevated our room. We’re delighted with the quality & effect of f&b and we’ve already started painting our bedroom with Calamine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Deep smoky green After much debate, we recently redid our north-eastern facing living room in Green Smoke (dead flat). I had looked at every single photo many, many times before choosing this shade. It's a little darker than I had anticipated, but I know during the summer months the natural light shift it will look different. Even with it being a bit darker, it's an entire vibe that elevates our living room to next-level moody. Trim was done in estate emulsion and it's the perfect addition to the walls.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Moody grey-green We recently repainted our living room in Deadflat, and it came out much moodier than anticipated (this isn't a bad thing!) Many of the photos I've seen of Green Smoke have definitely skewed more green than how it looks in our living room, undoubtedly due to the natural light available (our windows are north-east facing). Two coats went on like a dream, and we used estate emulsion for the trim. This is my third time using FB paint, and I'm still a very happy customer!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from beautiful colour and amazing finish i absolutely love this colour and i love the new dead flat finish - it makes it so easy to colour drench the whole room including woodwork and radiator, so much less cutting in. and the finish is so hardy it’s difficult to wash it off your hands. i’ve always loved f&b colours and now finally there’s a hard wearing finish

Rated 5 out of 5 by from New dead flat a success! Loved green smoke colour and the new dead flat! I was painting an old cupboard to contrast with our new kitchen. It goes on really well and i loved the finish. Although as it’s going to get a lot of wear I’ve put a coat of dead flat varnish on too. I’m doing a bookcase next!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Green Smoke Modern finish Paint Beautiful calming colour, painted in our kitchen and utility room. F&B paint is such lovely thickness to apply and the modem finish is wipeable which is great when you have young children. Thanks!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stunning and Cozy! I had a tough time trying to find the right green for my bedroom, as anything more olive-y ended up looking more muddy than a warm green. I spent a while trying to decide between Green Smoke and Calke Green because I wasn't super confident with how the sample colour looked. After reading through many of the reviews, I came across a couple saying that they took the risk with Green Smoke despite how the sample colour appeared. With that, I decided to do the same, and I couldn't be happier with how this room turned out! It's such a warm, cosy, and enveloping colour. The room is southwest facing, and Green Smoke works a treat! The photos show the colour in the early afternoon and evening light. I used modern emulsion on the walls and estate eggshell on the crown moulding and closet doors. I've paired it with Off-Black No.57 in estate eggshell on the door, skirting boards, and window frame.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful alluring colour Very happy with our choice of colour, after many, many samples. We’ve used it in our office, which is south facing. It’s astonishing how much the colour changes depending on how much light is apparent. It has a dark cosy feel to it on dull days, but when the sun is out it illuminates, casting its green and someone’s even blueish tones. We wrapped the room in it, walls, ceiling and even the floor, so it really is impactful.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful green Decided on green smoke/schoolhouse white for our bedroom. Over the moon with the results. Paint went on easily with a smooth finish though though the schoolhouse white needed an additional coat to get the same finish.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just perfect! It took me ages to pick a colour for our panelling. After lots of Instagram and Pinterest searches I decided on Green Smoke (with Shaded White above) and I'm so glad I did! It's beautiful with lots of depth like all F&B paints. We primed the wood beforehand and only used a quarter of the tin so I have plenty left for another project.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Green This was the perfect colour for our jungle themed bedroom. Its such a calm soothing colour. The room is north facing so doesnt get much light but the colour still works really well making the room feel warm and cosy. Paint covered really well and only required a couple of coats.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The most beautiful colour If you love green, you will love Green Smoke. I decided to combine it with Wevet in my hallway (it’s already quite dark so thought the Wevet would help to keep it a bit brighter). It looks better than I even imagined. Love F&B paint, it always drys back so well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect color for my front door! I chose this color for my front door and wow what a face lift! I painted the wood door and frame and the metal storm door (using all the coordinating primers) and it looks even more beautiful than I expected!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Darker than expected Great paint, much darker than expected in areas without a lot of natural light and/or warm lighting. Looks as expected from the colour card while wet but dried to a beautiful dark green with a hint of grey/blue depending on the lighting. I'm too timid to use it but that shouldn't distract from the overall high quality :)

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointing Finish The colour is gorgeous-I've used it before in modern emulsion. But am very disappointed in the dead flat matt. I've got 4 coats of paint and its still patchy. There's also drips-never had this problem before when using emulsion. All in all not impressed with the dead flat emulsion

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Love the deep colour but very bad quality paint I bought this paint a few months ago to decorate my newly plastered/ misted and primed dining room. The paint is a beautiful deep colour, however I am really disappointed with the quality of the paint. The dark colour requires many coats to achieve even coverage. Also, once dried the paint chips with even light contact, cracks and peels off the wall in strips. It cannot be cleaned without taking the colour off the wall. I have had to have the paint colour matched to another brand and repaint the whole room. I’m so disappointed with the quality of the paint given the amount it costs and the fact I’ve had to pay again to have it colour matched to a more durable brand.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Really disappointing finish and customer service I bought this product 6 weeks ago in estate emulsion and got a great finish initially. Since then, every time you even lightly touch the wall or knock it you end up with marks. I tried cleaning gently with a damp cloth and gentle detergent which left nasty water stains. So I touched up the damaged areas - which came out much lighter despite it having only been 6 weeks since I originally painted. Customer service recommended repainting the WHOLE ROOM. Another £50 for an inadequate product. Really, really disappointing and not at all what I expected from this brand. I would be disappointed if this has been a £10 product, let alone something 5 times that amount.
