Elephant's Breath

No.229

A warm mid grey

This warm and contemporary grey is renowned for its characterful paint name, originally created by John Fowler, the notable English interior designer. Elephant's Breath reads as an uplifting mid grey with its hint of magenta, but can become almost lilac in the cooler light of west facing rooms. Try offsetting with Charleston Gray and London Clay for an invitingly earthy scheme with more intense accents, or pair with other Contemporary Neutrals such as the softer Strong White for a sense of neutrality and calm.

Recommended Primer & Undercoat: Mid Tones

Complementary white: Strong White

Elephant's Breath is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 283.

ECO-FRIENDLY AND CHILD-SAFE

Back in 2010, we moved our entire range to an eco-friendly water base that’s low odour, low VOC and child-safe, becoming the first in the industry to do so. Easy to clean without harmful solvents, in tins that can be recycled again and again, our paints help to reduce the environmental impact of redecorating your home.

QUALITY FINISHES

Our paint colours are available in a range of durable interior and exterior paint finishes, each rigorously tested to ensure an exceptional depth of colour and long-lasting finish. For the very best results, we always recommend using a Farrow & Ball Primer & Undercoat – see above for the correct tone for this colour.

SAFETY INFORMATION

All Farrow & Ball finishes except Limewash contain isothiazolinones, which may produce an allergic reaction. Farrow & Ball Limewash contains calcium hydroxide which can cause severe damage in contact with skin or eyes. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really modernised our kitchen So happy with this on our kitchen cupboards - can’t believe the difference it has made - kitchen seems so much lighter, brighter and modern. Used Down Pipe on the bottom cupboards and they look fabulous together.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fab paint! I bought this a month ago and got around to painting our bedroom the other weekend. I am delighted with the results. The colour can appear differently depending on the light, from grey to grey brown and sometimes a hint of lilac, I love it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Estate emulsion We have used Farrow and Ball throughout the recent house renovations, and opted for estate emulsion in the lounge. So easy to apply, consistent, with a classy finish. We are still waiting for the carpet to be fitted but looks amazing. We used Cornforth White in the Hall and that gets the best reviews.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Gorgeous color that changes with the light I painted our living room with this color last week and it is just so gorgeous. I noticed the paint was a little thinner than other brands I've tried but I did 3 coats and all went well. The room has north facing and south facing windows and depending on the time of day this looks almost lilac. So if you're not into that maybe watch out! In artificial light still looks nice

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Brilliant paint I bought modern emulsion elephant's breath about a month ago. I wish I had used it the first time I painted the walls in the hall. Its a beautiful colour which changes during the day depending on the level of natural light. Its quite tough and easy to clean if you have young children with mucky hands.
