A very pale taupe

Dimity is named after the lightweight cotton fabric originally used to make ladies’ bustles, but which is now more commonly used for bedding. One of our Red Based Neutrals, this pale and subdued taupe is brimming with warmth and an unmatchable depth, making it perfect for elegant and understated hallways. It can be combined with All White and Pointing to read pinker, or with the darker Oxford Stone on woodwork for a slightly aged look and relaxed feel.

The finest ingredients

The finest ingredients

We’re dedicated to perfecting the art of paint. At our home in Dorset, we combine the finest ingredients, 75 years of experience and technical precision to help you create beautiful spaces that stay beautiful. Even in our colour rich paints, less than 8% of the tin is the colour. The other 92% is what creates the quality, depth and extraordinary response to light that transforms your home.

Paint is like coffee. The colour is the froth on the top, but it’s the quality of the rest of the cup that makes it taste good.
– Richard Ball, Farrow & Ball Co-founder

We use twelve exclusive pigments, all specifically selected for their colour intensity. We take colour seriously, so naturally, we only accept the very best. By using these same pigments to make every colour in our palette, all our shades combine effortlessly, making it easy for you to put together a cohesive colour scheme.

Deeper, richer colours

Deeper, richer colours

Packed with pigment for an extraordinary response to every kind of light.

We add generous helpings of rich pigment to create our signature look – deep colours with complex undertones. The same space that feels bright and airy in morning sun, can feel cosy and intimate by evening. Our teams design each shade under every kind of light, so it will be perfectly balanced in every setting.

Extraordinary response to light

Extraordinary response to light

We spend months carefully crafting and testing each of our paint colours to make sure they share our signature extraordinary response to light. This beautiful reaction to changing light, like bringing out different undertones or shifting intensity, is what makes our paint so special.

Interior and exterior finishes

Interior and exterior finishes

From walls, floors and furniture to radiators, skirtings and sheds, our range of paint finishes can help you transform almost any surface in your home (and outside it, too).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Added warmth A lovely neutral that compliments our new bedroom furniture. As with all Farrow and Ball paint - an excellent finish. Really pleased!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A perfect neutral Dimity is the perfect neutral without being too cool or too warm looking. I wanted a change from the very cool hues of ammonite and this has definitely done the job. I teamed dimity dead flat emulsion on walls and woodwork with pointing dead flat emulsion on the ceiling. I love the finish of the dead flat paint will use this in future, covered the radiator beautifully.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from a bright yet cozy cream A lovely soft cream that is perfect in north facing rooms. It has enough contrast with white trim, and feels a little cozy, but is still light and bright. I've used in in multiple rooms in two houses now. This was my first time trying Dead Flat finish and so far I like it. Hoping it holds up better over time than the Modern Emulsion.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Paint! Not used it yet, but if it is as good as the Bamboozle that we ordered at the same time, there will be not problem.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from perfect kitchen neutral I hadn't seen this color featured much, but it is as promised, lots of depth, lovely complement to my very white kitchen cabinetry.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Susceptible to Colour Shift We bought Dimity in Dead Flat for our Lounge and Dining Room. Whilst I absolutely love the colour in our lounge which doesn't get a lot of changes in light throughout the day, I really don't like the colour in our sunny dining room as it looks yellow rather than a neutral taupe. I did try a sample on several walls and felt happy as it didn't show any signs of a yellow tone. It is natural for some colours to shift greatly depending on the time of day and sun levels and it seems this colour is particularly susceptible to this. I don't like yellow on the walls so the dining room will be repainted. It is obviously a personal preference so I would still recommend the colour. In the shade, it has a beautiful peach undertone, but in the sun it is a pastel yellow. Just be aware of this.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Paint, Bad Tin! Great paint but unfortunately you gave me a damaged tin where the base is bowed and won't sit steadily. Very annoying as it was a 5 litre tin of Dead Flat that should last me for several rooms, especially when it costs over a £100.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Warmer than expected, needed to change There are never any issues in terms of quality with F&B, so this mixed review is purely subjective. We bought Diminity in Estate Eggshell for the woodwork in the room - doors, skirtings, picture rail. This was to go with walls painted in Jitney, as the F&B site suggested that diminity was the complimentary white. Unfortunately we found it a lot warmer than expected, and particularly in the evenings it seemed to make the woodwork look a little muddy and in need of a repaint! So that's exactly what we did, this time opting for Pointing, which is much lighter and 'cleaner', providing more contrast with the walls. Diminity not for us I'm afraid, it might be better suited to walls, certainly for our taste

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Modern emulsion doesn't match tester We bought tester pots of London Stone, Oxford Stone, and Dimity. They only come in estate emulsion but the Dimity was the one we liked for our main bedroom. We decided that Modern Emulsion was the finish we wanted. Unfortunately, the colour does not match the tester pot at all. I can't believe that the difference in sheen would account for that much difference. I don't know if our tester pot was bad but we're not particularly happy. We used Eddy in Modern Emulsion for our smallest bedroom and the colour much more closely matches the tester pot. We haven't yet tested our other paint colours. Quality of the paint itself is good but the tester pot gave us an entirely misleading idea of how the colour would be. Why not offer tester pots in other finishes?
