A traditional sage green

This rich and traditional green is a cleaned version of a colour originally found in the breakfast room at Calke Abbey. It is best used either on its own on both walls and woodwork, or with a darker neutral like Old White to enhance its deep sage notes.

Complementary white: Slipper Satin

The finest ingredients

The finest ingredients

We’re dedicated to perfecting the art of paint. At our home in Dorset, we combine the finest ingredients, 75 years of experience and technical precision to help you create beautiful spaces that stay beautiful. Even in our colour rich paints, less than 8% of the tin is the colour. The other 92% is what creates the quality, depth and extraordinary response to light that transforms your home.

Paint is like coffee. The colour is the froth on the top, but it’s the quality of the rest of the cup that makes it taste good.
– Richard Ball, Farrow & Ball Co-founder

We use twelve exclusive pigments, all specifically selected for their colour intensity. We take colour seriously, so naturally, we only accept the very best. By using these same pigments to make every colour in our palette, all our shades combine effortlessly, making it easy for you to put together a cohesive colour scheme.

Deeper, richer colours

Deeper, richer colours

Packed with pigment for an extraordinary response to every kind of light.

We add generous helpings of rich pigment to create our signature look – deep colours with complex undertones. The same space that feels bright and airy in morning sun, can feel cosy and intimate by evening. Our teams design each shade under every kind of light, so it will be perfectly balanced in every setting.

Extraordinary response to light

Extraordinary response to light

We spend months carefully crafting and testing each of our paint colours to make sure they share our signature extraordinary response to light. This beautiful reaction to changing light, like bringing out different undertones or shifting intensity, is what makes our paint so special.

Interior and exterior finishes

Interior and exterior finishes

From walls, floors and furniture to radiators, skirtings and sheds, our range of paint finishes can help you transform almost any surface in your home (and outside it, too).

We even have multi-surface finishes like Dead Flat and Full Gloss, so you can tackle walls, woodwork and metal at the same time.

Our comprehensive range is comprised of paint finishes that not only look beautiful, but offer different practical benefits. Designed for a variety of different surfaces, each finish is compatible with our high-performance Primers & Undercoats to ensure exceptional coverage, adhesion and depth of colour.

Slipper Satin

Without cool blue undertones, Slipper Satin often reads as a pale grey chalk which makes for a perfect neutral on walls with darker Old White woodwork. Find out more about Slipper Satin

Dark Tones

When it comes to using dark colours, the deeper the better. So, for an irresistibly inviting finished look, pair darker shades with our Dark Tones Primer & Undercoat. Based on the colour of Down Pipe, combining this primer with your topcoat creates an unrivalled richness and makes quite the statement.

Made with the same natural ingredients and pigments as our topcoats, our Primer & Undercoat is the crucial foundation for creating a rich, even and longer lasting finish.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fabulous rich colour Loving my FB Calke Green in our NW facing snug. It feels so rich and cosy. The photos show the subtlety of different light on different walls. Shame about the tv but I’m now looking for another interesting painting for the far side of the tv to balance the room.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Gorgeous sage green I wanted a green colour for our new cupboards in our dining room. I didn’t want anything too light or bright. I originally thought about Duck Green, but saw this which is lighter. I didn’t get any testers, I just went for it. Absolutely love the colour, everyone who has seen it so far has commented on what a fab colour it is. A gorgeous sage green. Our decorator used 2 coats of modern eggshell. We matched it with lime green on the walls, and a splash of orange with fittings.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simply perfect This Dead Flat emulsion is full of depth, richness, and with a velvety appearance & smooth finish. The paint rolls on thick, one coat covered our already deeply coloured wall perfectly. We married the Calke Green with Lichen - a perfect combination.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this color choice as an accent in my hall I opted to go with calke on all of the trim in my entrance hallway/stairs to help balance the studio green walls, and I couldn't be more pleased. It's a really lovely earthy green that goes well with so much.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Calming and fresh Paired with India Yellow to give a springtime feel to a holiday let (and differentiate vs the typical '50 shades of greige'). Guests all love it, and so do we!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful paint This was my first experience using Farrow & Ball paint, and I must say I have been thoroughly convinced of its quality and performance. I used Calke Green on all of the wood trim and the 100-year-old windows of my sun room. I could not be happier with the richness of the color. The room is east-facing, so in the bright morning light, it reads a bit more pastel, whereas in the diffuse afternoon light it takes on a richer, more sage-like hue. In terms of workmanship, I have no complaints. The paint went on smoothly, had good coverage, and dried quickly without much odor. I will definitely look to Farrow & Ball again for future DIY projects around the house.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Beautiful Serene Green About 18 months ago, we embarked on a full scale house renovation. We had come from a new build property, which we loved, but we had kept decidedly neutral with the view that we'd only be there a few years and would sell sooner rather than later. When we came to deciding on colours for our current home, we were adamant we would chose ones with impact and that enhanced the character of the house, and also colours that we really loved. We chose Calke Green for the dining room. It is a south facing room and gets plenty of sunlight throughout the day, so we knew it could take a darker hue without losing the bright and airy feel of the room. We paired it with Cooking Apple Green on the ceiling (an idea I pinched from another reviewer on here!) and All White on the trims. It really is a beautiful shade - I love it. The room has multiple uses. During the day, I find the colour quite invigorating when I'm working from home in here or reading on the sofa. At night, we use it for evening meals and it works there too - it's warm and inviting. This is the room that had the most work done to it and looking back at the before picture, which I've included below, I can't quite compute that it's the same room. We chose colours quite early on while work was being done - plastering, new central heating, joinery work etc - and the excitement of using such bold colours in each room, and picturing the end result, really kept me going when things inevitably got quite stressful! For the finish, I've used the Modern Emulsion throughout. I took a long time to settle on that decision as I know the Estate finish is legendary! But, I couldn't live in a house where I was scared to touch the walls. The Modern Emulsion is durable and a breeze to paint with. It was the right decision for us and the colour is still rich and changes depending on the light. For the inbuilt shelves in the alcoves, I used Modern Eggshell again in Calke Green. This was lovely to apply too but it did need 4 coats to get a truly even finish. For both, I used the suggested undercoat, which you can see in one of the pictures and is a deep bluey grey. I'd recommend using the undercoat. Also a quick note about painters tape. I love a crisp, perfect line and always use Frog tape. But beware, as I've seen other reviewers have had the same issue, be really careful when using it as it will pull up F&B paint if you really press it on. I found the best way was to take the strip and blot it a few times on your trousers, then apply it lightly and remove it, slowly, as soon as you've finished. I still had to do a few touch ups here and there but I couldn't not use it as I'm terrible at doing the edges freehand! It's fair to say using F&B is not a quick job, but the effort (and extra cost) is 100%worth it. The upstairs we left until last and at this point there was very little money left in the budget! I used a cheaper brand's one coat emulsion for the bedrooms. And it's fine and we saved a lot of time! BUT it does not even slightly compare to Farrow and Ball. The finish and the colour is nowhere near the quality. I'm a total convert - having not used it before. We can live with the bedrooms as they are for now but I will be redecorating as soon as I can and using F&B. Happy decorating and I hope my review has helped your colour decisions!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from I expected better from a premium paint Supplied this paint to a professional who prepared the wall, used F&B primer and the result was poor. Four coats and still the finish is uneven.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Peels Off I recently purchased this paint to decorate a room during an ongoing renovation. We used a professional decorator with many years of experience and an emphasis on prep work. Our decorator worked on other rooms using the same preparation process but with a variety of brands. This Farrow and Ball paint is the only one that caused us an issue. Once dried, it began peeling off as if like glue. It's a real shame as the colour is beautiful. It should be made much clearer that this paint will only work with FB primer.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Full gloss was a total miss I could not believe how horrible to full gloss went on- even using the recommended F&B dark tones primer. Thank goodness I happened to have some eggshell leftover from another project, which applied totally normally. Nothing special, but saved an absolute disaster. The initial application of full gloss looked like I tried to use my toddler’s paints on the door!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Calke Green Very disappointed with the paint...delicate at corners and if and piece lifts it can peel off in chunks. Difficult to cut in corners without the showing up.
