A sophisticated aubergine

Brinjal takes its name from the beautifully deep and shiny skin of the aubergine, so it is particularly magnificent in Full Gloss. It can create a warm and highly sophisticated finish when used on all walls, but is more often used as a feature wall to enhance a neutral Skimming Stone scheme or as an accent on the underside of a bath or kitchen island.

The finest ingredients

The finest ingredients

We’re dedicated to perfecting the art of paint. At our home in Dorset, we combine the finest ingredients, 75 years of experience and technical precision to help you create beautiful spaces that stay beautiful. Even in our colour rich paints, less than 8% of the tin is the colour. The other 92% is what creates the quality, depth and extraordinary response to light that transforms your home.

Paint is like coffee. The colour is the froth on the top, but it’s the quality of the rest of the cup that makes it taste good.
– Richard Ball, Farrow & Ball Co-founder

We use twelve exclusive pigments, all specifically selected for their colour intensity. We take colour seriously, so naturally, we only accept the very best. By using these same pigments to make every colour in our palette, all our shades combine effortlessly, making it easy for you to put together a cohesive colour scheme.

Deeper, richer colours

Deeper, richer colours

Packed with pigment for an extraordinary response to every kind of light.

We add generous helpings of rich pigment to create our signature look – deep colours with complex undertones. The same space that feels bright and airy in morning sun, can feel cosy and intimate by evening. Our teams design each shade under every kind of light, so it will be perfectly balanced in every setting.

Extraordinary response to light

Extraordinary response to light

We spend months carefully crafting and testing each of our paint colours to make sure they share our signature extraordinary response to light. This beautiful reaction to changing light, like bringing out different undertones or shifting intensity, is what makes our paint so special.

Interior and exterior finishes

Interior and exterior finishes

From walls, floors and furniture to radiators, skirtings and sheds, our range of paint finishes can help you transform almost any surface in your home (and outside it, too).

We even have multi-surface finishes like Dead Flat and Full Gloss, so you can tackle walls, woodwork and metal at the same time.

Our comprehensive range is comprised of paint finishes that not only look beautiful, but offer different practical benefits. Designed for a variety of different surfaces, each finish is compatible with our high-performance Primers & Undercoats to ensure exceptional coverage, adhesion and depth of colour.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Paint It’s the best paint I have ever purchased. I will no longer use other brands.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from F&B never disappoints We redid our kitchen in Brinjal (including tiles, cabinets and walls) and could not be happier with the end result! Please note that on the cabinets we needed 3 layers after already having primed with recommended primer. We combined with Peignoir for the doors and windows. Attached some before and after photos. FYI: living room is also F&B Dix Blue

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rich warm colour We had our lounge fitted with built in cabinets and chose Brinjal for the units to offset pale oak shelves and floor, and walls painted Middleton Pink. It looks just stunning!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Little luxuries. We used Brinjal to paint our utility room toilet (including the ceiling). The effect is a luxurious deep purple that sometimes looks burgundy. It really gives character to this much neglected room. The paint needed three coats over the white ceiling and two over the previous dark blue walls. The paint is a joy to use, it goes on easily, has minimal odour and is very easy to clean off brushes and rollers. Along with the fabulous colour palette this is why we choose Farrow and Ball every time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Timeless and Beautiful My wonderful husband surprised me with painting our bedroom this colour while i was away for work (this was 6 years ago now) and i still remember how much my jaw dropped when i saw it. To go from boring magnolia walls to something so deep and rich was a real shock - but a fantastic one! a colour i will never regret! It is simply beautiful! I am posting this review many years after purchase as we have just moved from that home (how unfair is it that you cannot take painted walls with you!) and i am sure i will be using this colour again in our new space. The only slight downside is the price, you definitely get what you pay for but i can understand how it may be out of some peoples price range for paint.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing effect This colour in Matt finish is just brilliant! Took us a lot of time to do it. We applied it 3 times but it was so worth it. Dark colours are not the easiest. The quality of this paint is amazing though! We are very happy with the final effect

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I’m in love. I saw reviewer’s pictures, and I wanted the look. I thought I was prepared for the pain but oh boy, the test patch… Three coats on three walls and a mad dash to the Bristol store for another can, to finish off. Phew, I bagged the last one. It might have taken three very long days, and a lot of gin but I absolutely adore the finished look! The depth of colour is velvety, it takes my mind to bygone times and cosy Victorian parlours. It’s like colour therapy for the soul! Thanks again F&B :) P.S. If you’re painting over a light wall, be prepared and order a can more than you expect to use. Reaching a luscious depth of colour can’t be skimped on.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Classic with a twist Just painted yet another ‘junk shop’ find, a boring brown bedside table that has now been transformed by the unique brinjal. I always now use 3 coats of modern eggshell completely transforming an aged wood into something rich and warm. An upcycler’s dream colour. Farrow and Ball has become an obsession

Rated 4 out of 5 by from As dramatic as expected. It really took time for me to make the decission about Brinjal because I found it could be too dark for a big piece of furniture , but the result is as dramatic as I expected, The quality and finish of the colour is extraordinary.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Patchy I have applied 4 coats of estate emulsion and it is still patchy. We have tried roller, brush and pad.
