A protective olive green

This mid-century modern green is a darker version of the much loved archive colour, Olive. Perfect for those who want to embrace stronger colour in the home, its sober tone creates rooms that feel calm and serene - especially when combined with soft pinks and browns. Named after Japanese tea leaves, Bancha, like a cup of green tea, provides a feeling of security.

The finest ingredients

The finest ingredients

We’re dedicated to perfecting the art of paint. At our home in Dorset, we combine the finest ingredients, 75 years of experience and technical precision to help you create beautiful spaces that stay beautiful. Even in our colour rich paints, less than 8% of the tin is the colour. The other 92% is what creates the quality, depth and extraordinary response to light that transforms your home.

Paint is like coffee. The colour is the froth on the top, but it’s the quality of the rest of the cup that makes it taste good.
– Richard Ball, Farrow & Ball Co-founder

We use twelve exclusive pigments, all specifically selected for their colour intensity. We take colour seriously, so naturally, we only accept the very best. By using these same pigments to make every colour in our palette, all our shades combine effortlessly, making it easy for you to put together a cohesive colour scheme.

Deeper, richer colours

Deeper, richer colours

Packed with pigment for an extraordinary response to every kind of light.

We add generous helpings of rich pigment to create our signature look – deep colours with complex undertones. The same space that feels bright and airy in morning sun, can feel cosy and intimate by evening. Our teams design each shade under every kind of light, so it will be perfectly balanced in every setting.

Extraordinary response to light

Extraordinary response to light

We spend months carefully crafting and testing each of our paint colours to make sure they share our signature extraordinary response to light. This beautiful reaction to changing light, like bringing out different undertones or shifting intensity, is what makes our paint so special.

Interior and exterior finishes

Interior and exterior finishes

From walls, floors and furniture to radiators, skirtings and sheds, our range of paint finishes can help you transform almost any surface in your home (and outside it, too).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bancha Bedroom So happy with this paint, it's a pleasure to use! We used the Dead Flat finish in Bancha and Shaded White on the ceiling walls and woodwork and couldn't be happier. Would never use any other paint! So easy to use with great coverage. We feel like were in a hotel room! Here's to my next painting project!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The perfect rich olive green for our new bathroom We wanted a rich olive green to contrast with our mostly white bathroom & black accessories. We opted for Bancha and we absolutely love it - we drenched one wall in it including the door and frame, and then also used it in an alcove behind our shelving. We love the end result which is a crisp clean bathroom, with a moody green hue! As with all of F&B's darker dramatic colours, the colour changes in different lights, in the day it's quite a vibrant green but in darker setting it transforms into a dusky grey/green - just love it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful green We decided to decorate our hallway after completing it a couple of years ago in " De nimes " This time we went for " Bancha " on the panelling which really complements the victorian wallpaper . Absolutely love it , lots of compliments from our friends and family.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bancha Dead Flat First time using dead flat. So nice - hides a multitude of flaws and even makes my average decorating skills look decent ! Paired with black blue front door amd shaded white hall. Woodwork in drop cloth ! We love it !!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Wheatsheaf, Chilton Foliat We used Bancha on both the walls and panelling for our private dining room - now called The Green Room - in our pub, The Wheatsheaf, Chilton Foliat. It's perfect; a vibrant, verdant, atmospheric green that is warm and richly saturated in all lights. Would strongly recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic New Finish! I decided on Bancha to replace Hague Blue in my kitchen / sitting room / dining room and what a winner it was! I was so pleased that they launched dead flat just before I had the decorator booked as I love a matt finish and like woodwork and metal painted the same colour. Bancha looks so timeless, premium and the colour changes so much from day to night which I love. It also makes my orange accent colour really pop! Highly recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Honestly looked so classy. I wasnt sure about this at first as its a pretty dark bold colour. But I decided to do my feature wall in my bedroom with it and i’m so happy with it, my room feels like a showhome!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lovely shade of green We bought a house with very dated baby blue kitchen cabinets. Instead of buying a whole new kitchen, we just repainted the cabinets. Bancha is a lovely shade and suits the kitchen well. We used the dark tones undercoat and two coats of Bancha to achieve a perfect finish. Very pleased!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bancha is a warm green-more yellow than blue tone Bancha is a warm green. I had orginally chosen a green that has a lot of blue in it, but my friend thought Bancha would be better. They were right! Bancha looks cozy and warm in my den/reading room. I love it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bancha is perfect in my loung I deliberated long and hard about changing the colour in my south facing lounge and always came back to Bancha. It was painted on the feature wall with two alcoves and we love the changing shades during the day and evening through patio doors and the way it blends with the garden outside. Great paint as ever to apply.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great colour, weird skin like paint As a professional specifier i'd like to get discounted samples please Why has the paint gone so 'skin' like, it peels off the wall now, never did this before Were having to use alternatives because the application is so prone to peeling off Colours are great as ever

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Beautiful colour; poor paint. After searching through deep greens for our Victorian hallway from various natural paint companies (F&B, Little Greene, Edward Bulmer), we settled on Bancha in dead flat from F&B. The good news is that the colour is beautiful – warm, complex, stunning. The bad news is that the paint is extremely thin and low-coverage, and took three coats to get an even, opaque layer. More frustratingly, dead flat – which F&B says is durable and easy to clean, and recommends for high-touch areas like hallways – scuffs at the lightest touch. These scuffs do not wipe off after multiple tries. Disaster for a hallway, as you can imagine. We are in love with the colour, so this is terribly disappointing.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Perfect colour, bad finish I had tested a sample pot of the Bancha Estate Emulsion and loved the colour and finish, but when I went into the store the salesperson told me that Estate Emulsion was being phased out and I should get the Dead Flat instead. The sample card he showed me had a very similar texture and sheen, so I got the Dead Flat. Unfortunately, on the wall, the finish had a definite sheen - it was even slightly shinier than the Modern Emulsion. I'm so disappointed considering the push F&B are making to switch over to Dead Flat; if it's not the same truly matte finish, I just won't buy it. On the other hand, the colour is superb. I just wish it weren't shiny.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Gorgeous colour shame about the coverage I brought the Bancha estate eggshell to do up a small old table and four chairs. I've used farrow and ball estate eggshell in other colours many times before and never had a problem but I really struggled with the terrible coverage of this. Despite sanding, using a primer and an initial thin coat, the coverage has been really poor, with patches in places and major glooping and stickiness in others despite me leaving 6 hours between coats and applying as evenly as I could. Such a shame as its a beautiful colour but I'm thirty quid poorer, with half finished chairs looking very poorly finished despite my best efforts and lots of time spent. The chairs have been such a pain that I'm even considering doing the table a different colour as I've not started that yet.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor paint performance Not quite sure what has happened to Farrow and Ball paint. Used to be lovely with perfect coverage and barely 2 coats needed. Now, the paint leaves a chalky residue, even a couple of weeks later after tin was opened, completely different texture (despite resealing it thoroughly) I had to buy a brand new tin of paint and have just had to again for touch ups. The matching gloss was also poor. Took 5 coats on a radiator. Incredibly disappointed as the colour is lovely but would probably not purchase from F&B again.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Really Disappointed with Coverage We have purchased F&B for over 20 years. Always loved the paint, especially it’s coverage, however, Banche Modern Emulsion was horrible. Four coats have been done and it still hasn’t completely covered. We even sanded our trim and it will need at least 5 coats to cover. Have never experienced anything like this with any kind of paint. It took awhile to pick this colour and I’m so disappointed and it’s just taking so long to finish because of all the coats of paint.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from So disappointed I have wanted to use this colour for so long, we finally moved into our new house and I bought a tin of estate emulsion to paint a small bedroom. The coverage was awful- 4 coats and it still looks terrible, it's so patchy and uneven. I used most of a tin to do 2 walls, so there's not enough to complete the room. Given the awful quality and the time it took to do 4 coats on 2 walls I cannot bring myself to buy another tin. I've previously used Farrow and Ball paint throughout ny previous two houses and never encountered an issue before. Really regret spending so much money on this paint.
