A dramatic lead grey
Down Pipe, a dark lead grey, has definite blue undertones to it which deepen the complexity of the finish. Originally inspired by the colour used to paint downpipes and guttering, it has been embraced for use inside the home with fanatical zeal! This daringly dark hue is fabulous as a background to art, and extremely effective for use in halls to create a deeply dramatic entrance to the home.
We’re dedicated to perfecting the art of paint. At our home in Dorset, we combine the finest ingredients, 75 years of experience and technical precision to help you create beautiful spaces that stay beautiful. Even in our colour rich paints, less than 8% of the tin is the colour. The other 92% is what creates the quality, depth and extraordinary response to light that transforms your home.
Paint is like coffee. The colour is the froth on the top, but it’s the quality of the rest of the cup that makes it taste good. – Richard Ball, Farrow & Ball Co-founder
We use twelve exclusive pigments, all specifically selected for their colour intensity. We take colour seriously, so naturally, we only accept the very best. By using these same pigments to make every colour in our palette, all our shades combine effortlessly, making it easy for you to put together a cohesive colour scheme.
Deeper, richer colours
Deeper, richer colours
Packed with pigment for an extraordinary response to every kind of light.
We add generous helpings of rich pigment to create our signature look – deep colours with complex undertones. The same space that feels bright and airy in morning sun, can feel cosy and intimate by evening. Our teams design each shade under every kind of light, so it will be perfectly balanced in every setting.
Extraordinary response to light
Extraordinary response to light
We spend months carefully crafting and testing each of our paint colours to make sure they share our signature extraordinary response to light. This beautiful reaction to changing light, like bringing out different undertones or shifting intensity, is what makes our paint so special.

Lovely colour & finishWe have 2 walls in our sitting room in this colour, plus we painted a radiator cover and sideboard to match - depending on light the walls can look grey, grey/black or blue grey in my opinion. This paint doesn’t have any sheen which is perfect.

DownpipeI painted my lounge in Downpipe today and it’s absolutely beautiful. I really don’t know how to describe it, it’s grey but warm and sexy too! I went for dead flat and it was so easy to clean the brushes, I’m just thrilled with the results and can’t stop looking at it

color and qualityI've search through so many colors looking for the perfect color but they were either too blue or too grey. This color is exactly what I was looking for to paint our cabinets. The quality is terrific - great coverage.

Fabulous dramatic dark greyI painted my small study/box room in Downpipe and I absolutely love it. It’s a great background for art too. Put Blackened on the ceiling. So pleased with the colour. No excuse not to work now!

Room transformationWanted to get rid of the boring white bookcase color but everyone was skeptical. Add some bead board backing for a more furniture ambiance. Once complete, this room is beautiful, cozy and has personality. TV blends a little better and not so obnoxious. The paint handled beautifully.

Paint seperated way too quicklyWhen painting our closet, which took no more than 1 hour per layer, we had to continuously mix the paint (in our roller trays) in order for it to not seperate in darker and lighter colours. This became evident after the first layer. We ended up needing 4(!) layers in order for an ok-isch end result. I’m not an novice painter, so the quality considering the paint’s price dissappointed hugely.

Great colour terrible paint.Painted a feature wall with beading/panelling with the estate emulsion. I must have painted it at least 4 times. After wiping off some dust with a clean damp cloth marks were left on the area that was wiped. Was told by a customer service advisor at FB that the paint I used can’t be wiped as it will mark and you’ll have to re coat the whole wall. I was advised that the modern emulsion would have been better. My question is why would you sell a paint that can’t even be slightly wiped down without ruining the finish. Total and utter rip off and the fact they admit that their own paint is of such bad quality that you can’t even wipe it down once is unbelievable.

Disappointed-Downpipe Estate EmulationBig fan in general of F&B paint and have always gone for EE in lighter colours with no issues but the Downpipe is horrendous and shows absolutely every marked! Eg accidentally brushed a cushion along the wall and can see exactly where it happened. Stuck with it now but would avoid dark colours in EE in future.
