Estate Emulsion

This rich blue is less purple than Pitch Blue and livelier than navy Stiffkey Blue. Inspired by the formal rooms to which ladies would traditionally retire after dinner, Drawing Room Blue has a clean, graphic feel that works particularly well alongside Pitch Black and Incarnadine. When contrasted with All White on woodwork, it gains a regal edge, looking deeper and more intense.

Estate Emulsion is a classic choice for low-traffic interior walls and ceilings. Very matt with a distinctive, chalky finish, it minimises imperfections and creates a beautiful depth of colour.

This product is archived and made to order, which means samples aren't available and orders cannot be refunded or returned.

Key features

Very matte

Very matte

Estate Emulsion is a very matte finish with a chalky 2% sheen.

Our deeper, richer colours are available in a range of finishes with different sheen levels. Sheen always affects how colour appears: the same shade in gloss can look very different in matte. That’s why we specifically adjust the formula for every finish to make sure the balance is exactly right and you get the colour you were expecting. Our colours and finishes are formulated together, so you simply can’t have one without the other.

Classic, chalky look

Classic, chalky look

A true classic, Estate Emulsion is a distinctive, chalky finish that minimises imperfections and creates beautiful depth of colour. Due to this unique texture, it’s best suited to less-busy areas without a lot of traffic.

For walls and ceilings in low-traffic areas

For walls and ceilings in low-traffic areas

Estate Emulsion is our classic finish for interior walls and ceilings in low-traffic areas. Gently wipeable but not washable.

From walls, floors and furniture to radiators, skirtings and sheds, our range of paint finishes can help you transform almost any surface in your home (and outside it, too). Browse our full selection of finishes to find the perfect paint for your project.

100% water based

100% water based

We’re proud to have been the first in the industry to transition to a completely water based range back in 2010. As a result, all of our finishes, including our tough trim and floor paints, are made with a low-odour, low-VOC water base that scores A+ for indoor air quality.

Plus, our water based paint doesn’t discolour over time like solvent based paints can. So your spaces stay beautiful for longer.

Toy safe

Toy safe

This finish is independently tested and certified toy-safe in accordance with Safety of Toys Part 3: Migration of certain elements (EN 71-3:2019+A1:2021). That means you can and a splash of colour to toys, cribs and other surfaces little ones come into contact with. Our paints also have hardly any odour and don’t need any solvents to clean up, so you can breathe easy during application and beyond.

Dark Tones

When it comes to using dark colours, the deeper the better. So, for an irresistibly inviting finished look, pair darker shades with our Dark Tones Primer & Undercoat. Based on the colour of Down Pipe, combining this primer with your topcoat creates an unrivalled richness and makes quite the statement.

Made with the same natural ingredients and pigments as our topcoats, our Primer & Undercoat is the crucial foundation for creating a rich, even and longer lasting finish.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Deepest Blue - gorgeous. The product photos don't do Drawing Room Blue justice. It is an extraordinarily deep blue with hints of red. Most of the F&B blue paints have a lot of green in them (and a few of them, IMO, are actually green). This is one of the few that doesn't and it is a beauty. I used it in Full Gloss finish and the results were like glass. Paired it with Winbourne White - perfect.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Great colour. Poor Customer Service. I ordered a number of paint colours to redecorate a panelled room in a Georgian Town house. I used 'Drawing Room Blue' for the walls, which is a fantastic colour & finish, which I'm pleased with. I ordered 2 x 5L tins as I wasn't sure how much I would need. As it transpires I didn't need the second tin (which remains unopened and in the original packaging) but I do require a little more to complete the second coat. I asked F&B to kindly exchange the 5L tin for a 2.5L tin but they have refused because it falls outside of their 28 day policy. It's utterly astonishing that a brand such as F&B, that prides itself on the quality of their product, do not take the same approach to customer service & experience. I have an entire house to renovate and I will no doubt be spending a lot of money on paint over the next few years. I think it's rather shortsighted of F&B to quibble over an exchange. Disappointing. Well, there are other paint brands, afterall.
