James White

An off white with a slight green hue

This off white was first created for the pretty garden room of a discerning Dr James with a fresh underlying green tone. The slightest hint of green creates a calm, soothing and airy feel which is particularly useful for darker interiors. When used with no contrasts, James White transforms the space into the most light and tranquil of rooms, so it is often favoured in the bedrooms of the super stressed. It will look greener when used in contrast with All White and in north facing rooms.

Recommended Primer & Undercoat: White & Light Tones

Complementary white: All White

James White is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 130.

Back in 2010, we moved our entire range to an eco-friendly water base that’s low odour, low VOC and child-safe, becoming the first in the industry to do so. Easy to clean without harmful solvents, in tins that can be recycled again and again, our paints help to reduce the environmental impact of redecorating your home.

Every one of our paint colours is available in a range of durable interior and exterior paint finishes, each rigorously tested to ensure an exceptional depth of colour and long-lasting finish. For the very best results, we always recommend using a Farrow & Ball Primer & Undercoat – see above for the correct tone for this colour.

All Farrow & Ball finishes except Limewash contain isothiazolinones, which may produce an allergic reaction. Farrow & Ball Limewash contains calcium hydroxide which can cause severe damage in contact with skin or eyes. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect light touch Freshened the walls in a 1950s US time capsule bathroom. The original wall tile reads yellowy but after a few sample attempts concluded its really a whisper of cream with a barely greenish undertone. James White was the solution to brighten the space and maximize the afternoon light. Other choices were easily too much value, too yellow, too green or too earth tone. James White is a light touch, giving a lot of reflection while still reading as a derivative color in our room. Kept a similar valued Strong Whites on ceiling, doors & molding to provide a little contrast. Used French Gray in the adjoining hallway to give us smoky gallery walls and making all the rooms leading off of it lighter including the bath. Happy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great colour at any time of day Despite our living room being triple aspect, it can sometimes feel rather dull, so we thought we would brighten it up with James White. It’s warmer than a stark white and takes on different hues of green throughout the day. The colour is great and we are really pleased with the outcome.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An amazing colour that changes with the light This colour looks different throughout the day, sometimes cream but can look quite green. Just what I wanted to match a wall painted in Breakfast Room Green.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just perfect We have a new garden room. I chose James White for the ceiling and top part of the wall, with Calke Green below. I loved the two colours together as the James White has a slight green tinge. I ordered and then read the information about the origins of the colour. It was obviously fate as it was found in a garden room. Planning is now in process about what to add to the room to compliment the colours and provide a tranquil space to relax in.
