A warm mid grey
This warm and contemporary grey is renowned for its characterful paint name, originally created by John Fowler, the notable English interior designer. Elephant's Breath reads as an uplifting mid grey with its hint of magenta, but can become almost lilac in the cooler light of west facing rooms. Try offsetting with Charleston Gray and London Clay for an invitingly earthy scheme with more intense accents, or pair with other Contemporary Neutrals such as the softer Strong White for a sense of neutrality and calm.
We’re dedicated to perfecting the art of paint. At our home in Dorset, we combine the finest ingredients, 75 years of experience and technical precision to help you create beautiful spaces that stay beautiful. Even in our colour rich paints, less than 8% of the tin is the colour. The other 92% is what creates the quality, depth and extraordinary response to light that transforms your home.
Paint is like coffee. The colour is the froth on the top, but it’s the quality of the rest of the cup that makes it taste good. – Richard Ball, Farrow & Ball Co-founder
We use twelve exclusive pigments, all specifically selected for their colour intensity. We take colour seriously, so naturally, we only accept the very best. By using these same pigments to make every colour in our palette, all our shades combine effortlessly, making it easy for you to put together a cohesive colour scheme.
Deeper, richer colours
Deeper, richer colours
Packed with pigment for an extraordinary response to every kind of light.
We add generous helpings of rich pigment to create our signature look – deep colours with complex undertones. Our teams design each shade under every kind of light, so it will be perfectly balanced in every setting.
Extraordinary response to light
Extraordinary response to light
We spend months carefully crafting and testing each of our paint colours to make sure they share our signature extraordinary response to light. This beautiful reaction to changing light, like bringing out different undertones or shifting intensity, is what makes our paint so special.

I've always wanted to use Elephants BreathElephants Breath is perfect! My new dream kitchen in cashere was fitted, splashbacks and worktops in place and all it needed was the painting... Elephants Breath is, in my opinion, the perfect neutral! My kitchen was almost entirely in a Greige using the Cashmere on both splashbacks and cabinets. The worktops are a light white-grey, floor mid grey, yet I didn't second guess using yet another neutral for the walls and I'm not kidding when I say it literally brought everything together. This colour is beautiful... rich, warm and classy. I can't imagine ever getting tired of adoring it. Everyone loves the whole colour scheme. For years I've looked at this colour and wondered where it would work best. Now I want to use it somewhere else. I've used with white doors and a warm stone trim, but I can imagine this would look amazing next to everything from navy to burgundy, let alone a neutral scheme. I will definitely use it again. Totally recommend it.

Beautiful colour and finishThis is a beautiful, warm colour. It did need 3 coats (probably best with one undercoat and 2 coats of the paint, as advised by Farrow & Ball) to achieve the final finish, but the end result is stunning.

Used in bedrooms but adds a real depth of greyI first saw this in a colleague’s house and fell in love with the depth of colour and so used it when we moved in to our house. It just hits grey in a different way and i love it. Find me on instagram #yasmininteriorhome

My go to neutralElephant's Breath is my go to neutral. I've used it in my living room for a relaxing shade with substance and just bought some more for my kitchen top cabinets. A great colour that suits almost everything.

Brilliant!!We have just had our lounge chimney breast painted in Elephants Breath, and the other walls in the room in Skimming Stone, all in modern emulsion. We are first timers with F&B paint..just totally over the moon with the finish and results colour wise !!! I was worried about reviews that said the modern emulsion had a high sheen...not the case in our experience thankfully. Definitely recommend the 2 colours, they blend so well and have created a lovely contempary, warm but neutral palette to match in curtains etc going forward....I think the whole house is going to be painted in these colours very soon haha love them! Will add photos soon!

Is it grey? Is it lavender? Or is it a skin tone?Painted my front room this colour 5 years ago, last year I got the decorator back in because we had removed a cupboard door and needed the shelves, back wall and the white glossing painted
My original walls from 5 years ago were still in perfect condition and didn’t need repainting
I did inside that cupboard to match the walls in Elephants Breath and I’m more than pleased with the results
So worth paying for a quality paint because he didn’t have to repaint the walls my decorators bill was so much less

A classic warm greyWe used this colour for an Interior Design Project, it worked perfectly with their existing warm grey carpet. We also introduced the colour to the chest of drawers and architraves. Works best with warmer tones.

The paint doesn’t even look like it’s supposed toThe paint consistency is very nice, but the colour is awful. It’s purple, not even close to what it’s supposed to be like.
