Dix Blue

A relaxed green blue

This vintage blue takes its name from one of the first Farrow & Ball stockists based in East Anglia. Like many of our blues, Dix Blue has a large dose of green included in it, making it both warm and easy to live with. A touch of black pigment brings a slightly aged and relaxed vintage feel, making it perfect for use on upcycled furniture, panelling and woodwork, as well as living room walls.

Recommended Primer & Undercoat: Mid Tones

Complementary white: Clunch

For the very best results, we always recommend using a Farrow & Ball Primer & Undercoat – see above for the correct tone for this colour.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect color for a dark dining room Our dining room has been such a problem child, until we painted it Dix Blue! The room faces south and is shaded by the neighbor’s fence. Almost everything looks dreary in there. Pointing helped lighten it up, but Dix Blue made it a show stopper! The color is so rich, calm, yet oddly energizing. The chalk-like finish of the Estate Emulsion is also gorgeous.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A lovely calming and bright bedroom in Dix blue. I wanted to decorate a dormer bedroom, dix blue seemed to be the right colour. Because it is a dormer I wasn't sure whether to paint the ceiling a different colour, also it had four painted doors into the eaves and two wooden doors with painted frames, I didn't want to highlight these. So after much consideration I decided to paint the whole room in dix blue. I'm so glad I did. Because as it has light coming in from the North East and from the South West the colour changes from morning to evening. It is a very calming colour, and as usual with Farrow and Ball paint it went on like a dream.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Gorgeous I used dix on the baseboards and the window trim with Vardo on the walls in my dining room and I could not be happier. It’s a lovely vintage feel for my older home. And as always the paint is a dream to work with. Couldn’t love it more.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A mid-century, cosy colour I was looking for a mid-century modern-style colour for a very bright room that could take darker walls. Dix Blue was perfect. My possessions are somewhat rainbow-hued, and it goes with everything. It's very calming after dark too, making the room really cosy. The same great coverage as always with F&B. Pretty accurate to the website photos, although I find it a bit darker than some of them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fresh lick of paint for my shed I decided on Dix Blue and All White (Exterior Eggshell) when I had my shed made in 2013 and haven’t changed it since, I still love the colours (the shed company even used a photo of my shed in their adverts as they loved it too!). I’ve just given it a couple of coats and it looks as fresh as a daisy. The paint goes on really easily and dries beautifully flat, the white (just like many whites) needs a couple of coats to get a good solid finish but looks fantastic once dry. I think the last time I painted it was 2015 so the paint has lasted really well, I could have easily left it another year or two as it was still looking tidy but decided I needed a project in the spring sunshine. I’ve also painted our garden table in Dix Blue and that looks beautiful too! Thank you Farrow & Ball.
