Archive Collection: Cat's Paw

An earthy yellow-toned neutral

This warm neutral takes its inspiration from something rather different than you might expect – a darker accent to String and Cord, Cat’s Paw is aptly named after a complex nautical knot. Strong, earthy and grounding, it has a surprisingly green undertone when used in north facing rooms.

Recommended Primer & Undercoat: Mid Tones

Complementary white: Matchstick

Every one of our paint colours is available in a range of durable interior and exterior paint finishes, each rigorously tested to ensure an exceptional depth of colour and long-lasting finish. For the very best results, we always recommend using a Farrow & Ball Primer & Undercoat – see above for the correct tone for this colour.

All Farrow & Ball finishes except Limewash contain isothiazolinones, which may produce an allergic reaction. Farrow & Ball Limewash contains calcium hydroxide which can cause severe damage in contact with skin or eyes. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent colour on deep extern ltimber reveals to our cobalt blue entrance door We chose cat's paw to tone with old 'Cambridge bricks' on the walls of our Victorian shop to house conversion. The paint was for the deep exterior reveals of our cobalt blue entrance door. The bricks over the years had taken on many shades of cream/grey/beige/yellow and even black, but we didn't want the timber sides of the blue entrance door to look beige or grey which would have been dull against the blue. Hence we are delighted with this almost pale mustard tone of cat's paw - it is perfect. We have also used it to paint the sills of the first floor windows. It is slightly more yellow than the paint card!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cat's Paw is a stunning colour when combined with deep red/burgundy/gold fabrics & dark wooden furniture. We'd got a lovely dining room which needed re-painting, but we still had some beautiful curtains & some fabric covered dining chairs which were upholstered in rich red/gold coloured fabric. This paint has worked beautifully with that colour scheme, it is truly stunning! (We have got dark wooden dining table, that also works well with this shade) We've used F&B paint seveal times before over 12+ years. Every time we use someone else's paint we always end up disappointed, so we came back to F&B for this project. The paint has now been up about 3 months & it still looks perfect - we opted for the Modern Emulsion to give us that extra durability, and it was worth the extra money. We also painted the radiator using the Estate Eggshell in the same shade of Cat's Paw - and that looks wonderful too! One tip - do use 2 coats of the proper F&B undercoat & then do 2 coats of the top coat. Yes, it takes you a little bit longer, but the finish you get will make it look like you had professional decorators in! The paint dried quickly, so we did each coat on consecutive days, so the project was finished without too much faffing about. If it lasts as long as the last time we decorated that rooom in F&B paint, then it'll next need doing in a decade from now! While F& B paint might well cost a little more, we've not yet found any other brand of paint that will last a decade, and be as good as F&B paint is! ....Now back on the website to buy paint for the next 2 rooms!
