Archive Collection: Book Room Red

An aged terracotta

Book Room Red, the muddiest of our reds, is particularly suited to smaller spaces where the stronger Eating Room Red can be a little overwhelming. It takes its name from the reading rooms or small libraries often found in English stately homes, and creates an unapologetically aged feel.

Recommended Primer & Undercoat: Red & Warm Tones

Complementary white: Dimity

Back in 2010, we moved to an entirely water based range of finishes, becoming the first in the industry to do so. These low-odour, low-VOC finishes are easy to clean without harmful solvents. They are also certified child- and baby-safe in accordance with Safety of Toys Part 3: Migration of certain elements (EN 71-3:2019+A1:2021).

Exclusions: Casein Distemper, Wood Floor Primer & Undercoat, Wood Knot & Resin Blocking Primer & Undercoat, and Metal Primer & Undercoat.

Every one of our paint colours is available in a range of durable interior and exterior paint finishes, each rigorously tested to ensure an exceptional depth of colour and long-lasting finish. For the very best results, we always recommend using a Farrow & Ball Primer & Undercoat – see above for the correct tone for this colour.

All Farrow & Ball finishes except Limewash contain isothiazolinones, which may produce an allergic reaction. Farrow & Ball Limewash contains calcium hydroxide which can cause severe damage in contact with skin or eyes. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really love this colour we took a risk on this colour as sample pots are not availble for this archived colour , but we are glad that we did. The colour is so warming in our bedroom. One wall did take 4 coats to cover perfectly but t was worth the time and invested effort

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great colour Paint has excellent coverage for my garage door. One coat was sufficient with enough left to recoat when necessary. Colour goes well with the terracotta rpm and red cedar woodworks.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent paint. Bought Book Room Red to cover a feature wall and was very pleased with the result.Covered quite well on first coat, but applied a second to get perfection, and it was:- a truly deep colour with an exceptionally flat matt finish. Highly recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful subtle soft terracotery red. Repainting a sitting room. Already had this on the chimney breast wall for the last 15 years. Couldn’t bear to change it, so just refreshing it. Usual high opacity, applies beautifully and is a dream to ‘cut in’ against contrasting colour. Colour has been admired by many visitors.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lovely colour that we wanted. No other features. We needed to redcorate part of a room in the original colour. It had only faded a little over the past 20 years or so. But cutting in the new paint at a corner the difference with the old is barely perceptible. Smashing!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rich beyond belief Being a regular F & B user by trade, it shouldn't have come as any surprise how good this paint was. 2 coats by brush created a deep, glowing surface. F&B seem to have the knack of getting the colour just right as well as having an extra quality that is hard to define, combining tradition, suitability , 'just rightness' ... A true fan of F & B paints.
