It all started when John Farrow and Richard Ball made our first paints, supplying Rayleigh Bicycles, Ford Motor Company and other notable names.

Disaster struck when a fire destroyed our original factory but we made our new home in Wimborne, Dorset, where we’ve crafted our paint and paper ever since.

Thoroughly impressed by the quality of our paint, historic interior advisor Tom Helme and corporate financier Martin Ephson took on leadership and we began to develop colours for the National Trust.

We appointed our first stockist, Paint & Paper, who we’re proud to still work with today.

We opened our first showroom on the Fulham Road in Chelsea and launched our Colour Consultancy service.

The year of wallpaper. We launched our first papers, starting with the classic Self-coloured Stripe.

Farrow & Ball goes global! We opened showrooms in Toronto, New York and Paris, and launched farrow-ball.com.

We made the bold decision to move all our paints to a water base, leading the way for the industry.

We partnered with three esteemed creatives and institutions around the world to craft new shades and patterns: the Natural History Museum, interior designer Kelly Wearstler and fashion designer Christopher John Rogers.

We became part of Hempel, majority-owned by the Hempel Foundation.

We launched our pioneering new Dead Flat finish.

We became a Certified B Corporation™, a status that means we’ve been thoroughly assessed (and recognised) for our social and environmental performance, accountability and transparency — a reflection of our commitment to staying true to our values.

In September, we launched Flat Eggshell, a low-sheen finish tough enough for floors, staircases, and cabinets. It has taken its place in our Interior Range of performance finishes, bringing durability to every space within the home.
