A light and contemporary taupe

A warm Red Based Neutral named after our first Colour Consultant Joa, who still develops many Farrow & Ball colours. Joa’s White is a light and clean taupe with the merest hint of black pigment which makes it perfect to combine with the limestone, leather and linens often used in contemporary homes.

Complementary white: Dimity

Key features

The finest ingredients

The finest ingredients

We’re dedicated to perfecting the art of paint. At our home in Dorset, we combine the finest ingredients, 75 years of experience and technical precision to help you create beautiful spaces that stay beautiful. Even in our colour rich paints, less than 8% of the tin is the colour. The other 92% is what creates the quality, depth and extraordinary response to light that transforms your home.
Paint is like coffee. The colour is the froth on the top, but it’s the quality of the rest of the cup that makes it taste good.
– Richard Ball, Farrow & Ball Co-founder

We use twelve exclusive pigments, all specifically selected for their colour intensity. We take colour seriously, so naturally, we only accept the very best. By using these same pigments to make every colour in our palette, all our shades combine effortlessly, making it easy for you to put together a cohesive colour scheme.

Deeper, richer colours

Deeper, richer colours

Packed with pigment for an extraordinary response to every kind of light.

We add generous helpings of rich pigment to create our signature look – deep colours with complex undertones. The same space that feels bright and airy in morning sun, can feel cosy and intimate by evening. Our teams design each shade under every kind of light, so it will be perfectly balanced in every setting.

Extraordinary response to light

Extraordinary response to light

We spend months carefully crafting and testing each of our paint colours to make sure they share our signature extraordinary response to light. This beautiful reaction to changing light, like bringing out different undertones or shifting intensity, is what makes our paint so special.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love Joa's White The minute I tried the paint sample knew this was the colour. Joa's White has transformed the walls of our North East facing kitchen/diner. It has warmth and depth - a perfect neutral. A beautiful creamy taupe. Farrow and Ball paint once again has excelled. Also great customer service for ordering of samples.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Lovely colour but poor coverage in the eggshell. I’m a big fan of estate eggshell, it’s a lovely forgiving paint and when used with f&b primer it dries really quickly without any issues! I used it alongside Dimity in a South West facing room and looks amazing! Lost a star as it was the worst colour I’ve used for coverage to date needing 4 coats over the mid tones primer. Thankfully I bought a big tin!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Limewash colour is nothing like sample colour We were deciding for a very long time on colours in the limewash finish, we even visited a Farrow and Ball store for advice on the limewash finish. Finally, we decided to go for Joa's white after being told by the store that the limewash finish would be the same as the sample... it was NOT. I feel bad leaving this review specifically on the colour of Joa's White as I'm sure the colour itself is lovely, but we didn't get that colour, and I think it is helpful for others considering F&B limewash finish - I think it's a problem with the limewash just being so much darker. There were also no instructions on how much it to water it down - we tried a variety of ratios. At 1:1 and even 2:1 (!!) it was still too dark and I cannot imagine this is the intended way of application. You can see from the photos how different this is and unfortunately it did not lighten into the correct colour over time as some suggested it might. It is expensive paint and frustrating to be so far from the colour we intended for the room.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Khaki! Joa's White in Dead Flat is not the same shade as in the Estate Emulsion finish. It should be, particularly as you can only buy a sample pot in Estate Emulsion. It has a definite greenish tinge in Dead Flat and I am still waiting for Farrow & Ball to address my complaint about it. Not pleased at all.
