Smoked Trout

A warm mushroom

The name of this Farrow & Ball classic needs no explanation! Brimming with rich pigments, Smoked Trout is a dark mushroom tone that can read as anything from a deep taupe to a dustier red depending on the light. With a magical depth and almost three-dimensional quality, is has a romantic feel wherever it’s used.

Recommended Primer & Undercoat: Mid Tones

Complementary white: Dimity

Back in 2010, we moved our entire range to an eco-friendly water base that’s low odour, low VOC and child-safe, becoming the first in the industry to do so. Easy to clean without harmful solvents, in tins that can be recycled again and again, our paints help to reduce the environmental impact of redecorating your home.

Every one of our paint colours is available in a range of durable interior and exterior paint finishes, each rigorously tested to ensure an exceptional depth of colour and long-lasting finish. For the very best results, we always recommend using a Farrow & Ball Primer & Undercoat – see above for the correct tone for this colour.

All Farrow & Ball finishes except Limewash contain isothiazolinones, which may produce an allergic reaction. Farrow & Ball Limewash contains calcium hydroxide which can cause severe damage in contact with skin or eyes. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Old shades / New shades Reviewing a now obsolete colour seems a strange thing! Fair is fair so on a plus side - The quality and coverability of FARROW & BALL is well known as is the almost perfect representation of paint charts to the actual paint in the pot....... SO NOW THE ACTUAL REVIEW and hopefully a suggestion for FARROW & BALL to look at for the future for dis-continued shades / colours! With so many 'colour match' machines available by other paint outlets, which will give the (near) colour but at a lesser quality to the Farrow & Ball products ....... Come on FARROW & BALL please invest in a machine to supply loyal customers with their now obsolete colours at the quality that they need. It's a win - win for both the customer and F & B, and a one up man ship on competitors.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for my hallway The decorator advised me to have Tallow and Smoked Trout in Modern emulsion for the walls in the hallway. We used All White modern emulsion for the ceiling and All White estate Eggshell for the doors and dado railings and skirting boards. Very pleased with the results.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Glad its available from F&B direct. Used this colour on certain walls and furniture items a few years back and loved it. Reflected ambient light within any particular room changes the appearance of the paint almost magically. Decided to use the same colour on interior window frames this year, contrasts natural wood cills nicely in my view. Glad its still available!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lovely warm tones You can always rely on F&B quality, their colour palette is always fresh. Smoked trout is a warm colour and works well in most areas. We used it in a study and it complements the existing joinery.
